Trump: Civilian Presidential Honor Is “Much Better” Than Military Medal Given To Soldiers

At a campaign event on Thursday, Donald Trump told the audience that a presidential civilian award is “much better” than the Congressional Medal of Honor (top military honor) whose recipients are “dead” or “in very bad shape because they’ve been hit so many times by bullets.”

Transcript:

“Miriam, I watched (Sheldon Adelson, her late husband) sitting so proud in the White House when we gave Miriam the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“That’s the highest award you can get as a civilian, it’s the equivalent of the Congressional Medal of Honor, but civilian version.

“It’s actually much better, because everyone gets the Congressional Medal of Honor – that’s soldiers. They’re either in very bad shape because they’ve been hit so many times by bullets, or they’re dead.”

This isn’t Trump’s first time denigrating veterans. You’ll recall he mocked Sen. John McCain for being a prisoner of war, questioned the intelligence of service members, requested that wounded veterans be excluded from military parades, and called fallen soldiers ‘suckers’ and ‘losers.’
