At a campaign rally in New Hampshire Friday night, Donald Trump blamed former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley for failing to provide adequate security during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack at the U.S. Capitol Building. Haley, of course, was not in government at all at the time. She was working in the private sector. He clearly confused Haley with former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) even though he repeats Haley’s name over and over. Trump has often tried to blame Pelosi for security issues on the day of the violent invasion of the Capitol. But there is no evidence that Trump ever made a request for 10,000 National Guard troops. The Speaker of the House has no control the National Guard. https://twitter.com/BidenHQ/status/1748534604401614968 From the New York Times:
“Nikki Haley was in charge of security,” he said. (She was not.) “We offered her 10,000 people, soldiers, National Guards, whatever they want. They turned it down. They don’t want to talk about that.”
Mr. Trump, 77, often attacks President Biden, 81, over his age and suggests that Mr. Biden is mentally unfit for office. “He can’t put two sentences together,” Mr. Trump said on Friday. “Can’t put two sentences together. He needs a teleprompter.”
Haley, who’s competing with Trump for the GOP presidential nomination, wasted no time in clapping back at Trump, questioning if Trump is mentally fit. https://twitter.com/BidenHQ/status/1748762880126722357 The campaign for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who’s also in the hunt (barely) for the Republican nomination for president, chimed in as well. https://twitter.com/DeSantisWarRoom/status/1748549057138614335
