Donald Trump threatened this morning to wipe out a “whole civilization” as he ramped up pressure on Iran to fully open the Strait of Hormuz or face destructive attacks on critical infrastructure within hours.

Text of Trump’s Truth Social post:
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!”
In response, Iran has stopped engaging in talks to halt the fighting, according to reporting by the New York Times.
Mediators from Pakistan and other countries have achieved little than escalating rhetoric and demands from both sides.
Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) attempted to soften the jagged edges of Trump’s language accusing CNN’s John Berman of “parsing” the social media post. Berman replied, “I was quoting.”
