MAX has released the official trailer for the upcoming Season 2 of The Last of Us, which picks up five years after the events of the Season 1 finale, with Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie’s (Bella Ramsey) pasts coming back to haunt them. The official synopsis: “After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.” Surprise bonus – the fabulous Catherine O’Hara joins the cast as what appears to be Joel’s therapist. She’s one of my favorite actors having created – among many characters – the magical, marvelous Moira Rose in the hit sitcom Schitt’s Creek. I love that she’s in “serious” mode here. For those who don’t know, the series is based on a very popular video game. And fans of the game are thrilled with how closely the series is following the game’s story as well as noting several Easter eggs sprinkled throughout.
Pure awesomeness and goosebumps all the way through.

The trailer’s release on September 26 is apparently a big day in The Last of Us lore. It’s what’s known as “Outbreak Day” – the day the cordyceps virus started the zombie pandemic that kicks off the franchise. The debut season of The Last of Us (in 2023) is reported to be HBO’s most-watched first season series ever and garnered eight Emmy Award nominations, including for Pascal and Ramsey’s performances, and for best drama series. Look for the new season of The Last of Us to debut in early 2025.
