Trailer: Dylan O’Brien Delivers A Star-Turn In ‘Twinless’

The dark family comedy Twinless follows two young men who meet at a support group for people who have lost their twin. As they bond over their shared circumstance, the pair form an unlikely – and intense – friendship.

In the trailer, Roman (O’Brien) and Dennis (Sweeney) form an inseparable straight-gay friendship with Dennis even trying to set Roman up with a gay friend, played by Yellowjackets star François Arnaud.

Official synopsis:

In Twinless, two young men meet in a twin support group and form an unlikely friendship. Roman (Dylan O’Brien) and Dennis (James Sweeney) both search for solace and an identity without their other halves and soon become inseparable outside the group.

But when Roman meets Dennis’ ebullient co-worker, Marcie (Aisling Franciosi), all is revealed to be not what it seems, as each man harbors secrets that could unravel everything.

The film had its premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. Dramatic Competition, winning the Audience Award.

Critics praised O’Brien for his multi-faceted performance playing Roman and his dead twin, Rocky.

The Wrap: “One of his best performances to date, bringing just the right amount of heartfelt himbo energy to his role as grieving twin Roman and giving the film unexpected emotional weight in key moments.”

The Guardian: “O’Brien is a knockout, delivering two lived-in performances at opposite ends of the spectrum.”

NY Post: “The actor’s most shattering moment comes in a hotel when rough Roman uncages his trapped feelings. I can’t recall such a raw performance in a comedy in ages.”

Over on on Rotten Tomatoes, Twinless has received overwhelming critical acclaim, boasting a 96% approval rating.

The film lands in theaters September 5.
