Slovenia Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage + More News

Slovenia has become the first country in Eastern Europe to legalize same-sex marriage and adoption.

The Supreme Court of Slovenia ruled today that the country's bans on same-sex marriage and adoption by same-sex couples are unconstitutional

Slovenia Rejects Marriage Equality

According to early results released Sunday by authorities, it appears 63% of Slovenians voted against legalizing same-sex marriage, while 37% were in favor.

The country’s Parliament passed marriage equality in March, but conservative groups, with support by the Catholic Church, demanded a country-wide referendum.

Slovenia Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage By Vote Of 51-28

By a vote of 51-28, Slovenia becomes the first Central European country (12th European country) to legalize same-sex marriage today.

A recent poll in Slovenia showed 59% of Slovenes support marriage equality.

I think it’s worth noting my last name is Slovacek 🙂
