Mariah Carey Had An ‘Extremely Uncomfortable’ Moment With Ellen DeGeneres

Add international pop superstar Mariah Carey to the list of folks who have had ‘uncomfortable’ moments with beleaguered talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

In a new interview with Vulture, Carey is asked about a 2008 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that recently resurfaced on Twitter amid the numerous allegations of behind-the-scenes turmoil at the gabfest.

At the time of the appearance, rumors were swirling that Carey was pregnant. It turns out she was BUT she hadn’t announced the news yet.

DeGeneres pointedly asked Carey about the possible pregnancy and Carey demurred. But, in an attempt to break the news, Ellen pulled out glasses of champagne and challenged Mimi to imbibe.

The pop star, clearly a bit distressed in the moment, kept trying to avoid the question. Click the center of the image below to watch.

“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say,” Carey tells Vulture. “And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath.”

“I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage,” says the 5-time Grammy Award winner. “I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment.”

Sadly, Carey did experience another miscarriage shortly after the interview aired.

Musing on the moment, Carey says there’s “an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented.”

A clip of the exchange is still posted on Ellen’s video channel with the caption, “Mariah Carey won’t respond to pregnancy rumors, but Ellen knows how to get an answer out of her without saying anything.”

Looking to the future, the award-winning singer/songwriter/actress is in media mode as her long-awaited memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, drops on September 29.

And the 18th season of The Ellen DeGeneres Show premieres next week.

Mariah Carey Zoom Bombs Cast Of Schitt’s Creek Graduation Celebration

Mariah Carey zoom bombs the cast of Schitt’s Creek (screen capture)

The cast of Schitt’s Creek zoomed up a special musical presentation for 2020 grads as part of ‘Dear Class of 2020’, a virtual commencement celebration broadcast on YouTube.

After sharing their pride and congratulations to the new grads (complete with the exemplary vocabulary skills of Catherine O’Hara’s Moira Rose), the cast began a gorgeous a capella rendition of Mariah Carey’s “Hero” (led by Noah Reid) in honor of the teachers who guided their students to the finish line.

But it wouldn’t be Schitt’s Creek without a twist, and so guess who zoomed themselves right into the musical moment? Mimi herself, Mariah Carey – complete with wind machine for flowing hair effects.

It’s a lovely musical moment for a Monday morning 🙂

Christmas Music: Mariah Carey “All I Want For Christmas Is You”

Mariah Carey’s holiday hit single, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” finally hit the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 23 years after its initial release.

The song was not officially released as a single back in 1994 which meant it wasn’t technically eligible for the Hot 100 chart.

But thanks to millions of streams on Spotify, the track became Carey’s 28th Top Ten on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2017.

And now, after a journey 25 years in the making, Mariah Carey’s 1994 carol “All I Want for Christmas Is You” crowns the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time.

Factoid: the song is only the fifth-holiday song to hit the Top Ten, and the only one to have the word “Christmas” in its title.

Much of the track’s chart lift came from millions of streams on Spotify.

The song isn’t one of my top holiday favorites, but there’s no denying how infectious the Christmas ditty is.

Nyle DiMarco’s Christmas Tweet Goes Viral As Superstar Joins In

‘Dancing with the Stars’ champ Nyle DiMarco (image via Instagram)

Just in time for Christmas, Dancing with the Stars and America’s Next Top Model champ Nyle DiMarco saw his 2019 hit its peak when a favorite celeb chimed in on his Twitter.

As a member of the Deaf Community, the dashing DiMarco is a big advocate for American Sign Language (ASL). It’s estimated that there are 70 million Deaf people in the world, but only two percent have access to education in sign language leaving millions without the education they need.

DiMarco often shares some phrases of ASL with his Twitter followers to encourage more people to learn the visual language.

Two days ago, he began a thread showing folks how to sign the title of Mariah Carey’s blockbuster holiday hit, “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”

The ASL challenge was Nyle’s way of celebrating Mariah’s newly-anointed 19th No. 1 single for its 25th anniversary this holiday season. And he asked folks to video themselves signing the phrase and post it on the thread.

Next thing you know, Nyle is getting videos from all over the United States and around the world.

Even Hollywood stars like Lea Thompson, Daniel Dae Kim, Chella Man and Marlee Matlin played along:

But then, Mariah herself took note of the viral Twitter-fest:

And Nyle’s mind was officially blown:

The actor/activist was still in a giving mood as he shared his last mirror selfie for the decade:

Memorial Day Flashback: BBQ With Mariah Carey, Olivia Newton-John & Tyson Beckford

Michael (L) with the fab Mariah Carey and me (R)

I originally posted this in 2015, but as I thinking about Memorial Days past, this was one for the books:

****************************************

So picture this: I’m laying on the couch having just taken a Vicodin for the tooth ache that simply will not go away.

(Regular readers know I’ve had not the best week with a tooth ache that wouldn’t quit and since it was a long holiday weekend my dentist’s office was closed. So I was medicating as best I could LOL.)

Hubby Michael comes in and asks “How are you??” As the pain meds are kicking in I stay positive and say “I’m ok.” I’m not really, but I’m going for the “think positive” thing here.

He repeats, “No, how ARE you? We just got invited to an impromptu Memorial Day BBQ at Mariah Carey’s house. Olivia Newton-John and Tyson Beckford are going too. Can you make it?”

At this point I”m pretty sure my hearing is on the fritz, too, as I thought I heard him say we’re invited to Mariah Carey’s house for a party???

And yes, that is what happened.

Thankfully, Vicodin isn’t the strongest thing in the world.

You don’t pass up an invite like this. I get up, shower, put my best “casual chic/going to Mariah Carey’s house” kind of outfit and off we go.

I’d never met Mariah but she was a doll. She and Tyson are old friends; and she and Olivia have sung together before.

I had a great time, was uber-impressed with the gorgeous house she’s renting during her Vegas residency at Caesars Colosseum. Of course, like every party, we all congregated in the outdoor kitchen, chatting and eating burgers. You know, your every day “I’m at a party with international superstars each in their own right” kind of party.

Very cool way to end Tyson’s headlining gig with the Chippendales as he was selling out just about every night. Olivia is now back in town at the Flamingo Las Vegas as her residency resumes. And we’ll be seeing Mariah back at Caesars Colosseum in July.

When I wake up from my Vicodin induced sleep, I’m going to have the best dream to tell Michael.

Check the pics of shiny happy people below.

I was clearly doing a bar run for the group at this time 🙂

Mariah Carey Breaks All-Time Single Day Streaming Record

Mariah Carey ruled Christmas Eve on Spotify as her now-iconic holiday hit, “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” broke the all-time record for the most streams in a single day.

Mariah Carey ruled Christmas Eve on Spotify as her now-iconic holiday hit, “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” broke the all-time record for the most streams in a single day.

Chart Data broke the news that Mimi’s blockbuster single was streamed more than 10.8 times on December 24.

The previous record was 10.4 streams of XXXTentacion’s “Sad!” on June 19, one day after he was shot and killed in South Florida.

“All I Want For Christmas Is You,” released in November of 1994, is now eligible for 5x Platinum status in the US.

The highest charting holiday-themed single in six decades, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” currently ranks 7th on the Billboard Hot 100.

Carey herself seemed to be surprised by the record-breaking news:

Just imagine work you did 24 years ago could still be earning big bucks.

We all know that artists make money, depending on their recording contracts, every time someone purchases their music.

Additionally, since Carey co-wrote “All I Want For Christmas Is You” with producer Walter Afanasieff, she makes bank every time it’s played on the radio, used in a movie or commercial or streamed.

And that can add up.

Business Insider reports the Grammy Award-winner has made over $60 million from the holiday hit alone since its release.

Some songs can become so associated with a certain time of year, they become perennial money makers.

For instance, each spring as warm, sunny weather emerges from winter, “Walking On Sunshine,” by Katrina and the Waves, returns to the airwaves with the 1985 track earning an estimated $1 million each year.
