After “apologizing” for his anti-gay comments earlier this week which resulted in his getting fired by Nike yesterday, professional boxer Manny Pacquiao is pouring more gas on the fire by posting a bible verse that condones putting gays to death.

The Filipino news agency ABS-CBN captured an Instagram Manny put up early Thursday morning quoting Leviticus 20.13:
“If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death, their blood will be on their own heads.”
The post has since been deleted.
TMZ Sports spoke with Manny’s longtime promoter Bob Arum who says although he finds Manny’s views abhorrent, he understands them because they’re rooted in religious belief. Manny is a born again Christian.
Earlier this week, Manny said gays are “worse than animals” — though he later apologized, while noting that he is still very much anti-gay marriage.

According to TMZ, Nike is prepared to drop professional boxer Manny Paquaio over his recent “gays are worse than animals” comment.
“Have you seen any animal having male-to-male or female-to-female relations?” Pacquiao said on a Filipino television station earlier this week. “If you have male-to-male or female-to-female [relationships], then people are worse than animals.”
Pacquaio later issued an apology.
The two sides have had a relationship since at least 2006 — but we’re told Nike is particularly disturbed after Pacquiao said gay people are “worse than animals” … and intend to drop the boxer for good.
We’re told the move is not official yet — but there have been multiple discussions and we’re told it appears to be heading in that direction.
Paquaio’s management has not responded to requests for comment.

After making incendiary comments about LGBT folks on Monday, Filipino boxer Manny Pacquaio apologized Tuesday for saying that people who are attracted to the same sex are “worse than animals”
Pacquaio, a member of the Philippines House of Representatives who is currently running for a Senate seat, made the controversial comments in a local television interview released Monday.
“It’s common sense. Do you see animals mating with the same sex?” he said. “Animals are better because they can distinguish male from female … If men mate with men and women mate with women, they are worse than animals.”
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the conservative Christian initially defended the comments: “I rather obey the Lord’s command than obeying the desires of the flesh. Im not condemning anyone, but I’m just telling the truth of what the Bible says.”
However, just seven hours later, the former world champion made a follow-up post in which he apologized for hurting the LGBT community.
“I’m sorry for hurting people by comparing homosexuals to animals,” he wrote. “Please forgive me for those I’ve hurt. I still stand on my belief that I’m against same sex marriage because of what the Bible says, but I’m not condemning LGBT. I love you all with the love of the Lord. God Bless you all and I’m praying for you.”
TMZ caught up with boxing champ Floyd Mayweather, who beat the crap out of Pacquaio last year in a major matchup, and asked Mayweather his thoughts on Pacquaio’s comments.
The champ again won the day with this response: “We should let people live their lives the way they want to live their lives. To each his own.”
All this coverage of the big Floyd Mayweather/Manny Pacquiao boxing event here in Las Vegas made me curious about the money that goes into and ultimately is generated by a sporting event like this.
According to Brian Warner, Mayweather is actually is not only large but in charge here. He’s basically the executive producer. Pacquiao, for all intents and purposes, is a hired hand. A well-paid hired hand, but other than stepping in the ring (and ultimately losing) Pacquiao gets the smaller share of the pie here.
According to a report from the New York Times, Manny will receive his advance Monday, April 20, in the form of a $50 million check. Ok, if you want to get technical, the check that Manny actually receives will be around $35 million, because 30% will have already been taken out for the IRS.
Floyd will pay himself an upfront advance as well, but it will be much smaller than $50 million. In previous fights that Floyd has orchestrated, he has paid himself $20 million, roughly a month before the match, to cover some expenses and such. But, as you might imagine, the real money comes almost immediately following the match.
Let’s say analysts are correct and the fight ends up generating gross revenues of $400 million. Roughly 30% will go towards a variety of expenses. That leaves around $280 million in profits. According to their 60/40 split arrangement, Manny will receive an additional $62 million on the backend to bring his total income up to $112 million. That’s roughly what Manny has earned from his last five fights, combined. It will be roughly $78 million after taxes.
Floyd’s 60% cut will be worth $168 million. That’s roughly $117 million after taxes.
$112 million will bring Manny’s career earnings total up to $375 million.
$168 million will bring Floyd’s career earnings total up to $578 million.

With the media still buzzing over Manny’s controversial condemnation of gay marriage… Pretty Boy Floyd released a counter-statement on Twitter saying: “I stand behind President Obama & support gay marriage. I’m an American citizen & I believe people should live their life the way they want.”

From LA Weekly: Manny Pacquiao, who lives and trains in Los Angeles, is probably in deep shit in this liberal city of brotherly love. That’s because the boxing champion said that gay men “must be put to death.”
Really. In a recent interview with the National Conservative Examiner the fighter quoted the Bible in relaying his feelings about President Obama’s support for same-sex marriage:
If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.
Pacquiao also said:
God only expects man and woman to be together and to be legally married, only if they so are in love with each other. It should not be of the same sex so as to adulterate the altar of matrimony, like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah of Old.
Word is that the very married Pacquiao hasn’t exactly been by-the-book when it comes to his own union — allegedly. He has been linked in reports to a Filipina actress named Krista Ranillo.
Now you know, the Bible has some advice about adulterers too. Leviticus 20:10 says “If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.” So, IF Mr. Pacquiao is actually stepping out with Ms. Ranillo, I wonder if he sees the same punishment as appropriate?
