Happy Valentine’s Day 2021

Happy Valentine’s Day! I originally posted this ten years ago, in 2011, the first year of The Randy Report.
Hot hubby Michael and I have been together for more than 26 years now. More wine…
With today being Valentine’s Day, obviously, my mind wanders to MY Valentine, Michael. That’s him, up above.
It’s hard to believe that we’ve been together 26 Valentine’s Days. Before we met, it looked like V Day was always going to be something to sing sad songs about.
Music is such a part of my life that I relate it to everything.
When people ask about the day Michael and I met, I explain that it was exactly as Oscar Hammerstein II wrote:
“Some enchanted evening, you may see a stranger; you may see a stranger across a crowded room; and somehow you know, you know even then, that somewhere you’ll see him again and again.”
I know, it sounds oh so cheesy, but it was that black and white. It’s just the best way to explain how I knew. There are days I can’t believe he’s in love with me. Still.
Not that we have this flawless romance. On days we disagree, I just remind him I’m his favorite 🙂
Interestingly, when we got married, we didn’t really have a song for the day because we were just so amazed that we even had the right to get married.
Probably the only big event in my life that doesn’t relate to a song. It was just all about Michael and me.
It goes without saying that all day long today I’ll be playing various iterations of “My Funny Valentine.” It’s such a great tune, and so many awesome artists have brought it to life.
Barbra Streisand’s version is still my favorite. A bit of drama in the beginning, and then that thrilling climax.
And then there’s Ella Fitzgerald’s version – sublime.
I recommend you get all of them, sit back and enjoy.
I think I relate Valentine’s Day and romance to music because music has rhythm, hills & valleys, and texture; a lot like time-tested love does.
A lot like Michael and I do.
Michael is my valentine; he’s the music that makes me dance. I hope you all dance the way we do. (that’s a euphemism, kids…)
I encourage everyone to pour a glass of wine, light some candles, turn out the lights, listen to some great music and enjoy.
Whether alone or with your honey, it’s a good day to remember to love someone. Someone else, or even if that someone is yourself. That might even be the best place to start.
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone.
Pride Music: Celebrating Trans Romance ‘Love In Transition’
Legacy Recordings and digital studio Cut.com have partnered to release Love In Transition, an inspirational video celebrating the beauty of transgender love set to Elvis Presley’s timeless romantic classic “Can’t Help Falling In Love.”
Love In Transition, released in celebration of Pride Month, shares the stories of six couples who describe falling in love while a trans partner discovers and embraces their true self.
Through each couple’s honesty, warmth, and humor, the video showcases how each couples’ love transforms, deepening as they learn more about each other’s truth and resilience.
For its appropriately moving soundtrack, Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love” was selected to underscore the simple beauty and endurance of love.
First released in 1961 and featured in Elvis’ blockbuster film Blue Hawaii, “Can’t Help Falling In Love” spent four weeks at No. 1 on the U.K. charts and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, earning a Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) Platinum award in 1992 for certified sales of more than 1 million units.

New “Kiss Cam” Video Celebrates All Forms Of Love Between All People
Oh, sweet mother of humanity. Here’s something to lift you up and make you feel good.
Filmed at this year’s NFL Pro Bowl. From Ad Week:
The new 2:40 video has some inspired fun with a longstanding tradition at sporting events, the Jumbotron kiss cam, which finds couples in the crowd and encourages them to kiss. This time, though, the kiss cam is used, in the Ad Council’s words, as a “symbol for unbiased love” by featuring all forms of love—friendships, families and romantic relationships—across race, religion, gender, sexuality, ability and age.
The stunt begins with a fun bit of misdirection, as the first couple encircled by the kiss cam’s heart shape are a man and a woman. But the man then turns to his right and kisses his actual partner, who is a man—to cheers from the crowd.
The rest of the video, titled “Fans of Love,” continues in a similar way, featuring all sorts of real people and relationships as a way to celebrate diversity and promote inclusion.
“The NFL is strongly committed to diversity and inclusion. We are proud to be working with the Ad Council on their Love Has No Labels campaign,” added Anna Isaacson, the NFL senior vice president of social responsibility.
The campaign points to lovehasnolabels.com, which features a quiz to help people examine their own biases and resources on how to take actionable steps to rethink those biases. An interactive “Fans of Love” video will present relevant campaign facts and links to educational content to audiences as they are watching the film.

I needed something ‘lighter’ and soothing; something to take a break from the world of politics.
I think Olympic UK diver Tom Daley and Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black are quietly charming talking about the evolution of their romance.

Take a minute and relax in someone else’s bliss.
Melbourne: Photo Of Gay Couple Holding Hands, Facing The World, Goes Viral
Photographer Chris Cincotta’s photo of a gay couple holding hands in Melbourne has gone viral as a symbol of gay love facing the world.
From the Humans In Melbourne Facebook page, Cincotta writes:
I was sitting in Centre Place when a couple who were clearly in love walked by. They were laughing with each other, holding hands and they looked like they were in their own little world. Which is exactly how love should be. I chased after them…
Their names were Tim and Brendan.
I asked the two gentleman to pose for me in this photo to show what would happen to those around them if gay marriage was legalised in Australia… Nothing. Zip. Zero.
Life would continue on exactly for everyone else as it does now and nobody would be effected except the two Humans who are so in love.
#letlovewin
#melbourneiloveyou
Cincotta explained the composition of the pic to Buzzfeed like this:
“I didn’t want them facing me, I wanted them to be any two men or two women. I said, ‘Stand there, you’re going to represent love, and everyone will be moving around you’… That’s exactly what love is, it’s about being in a bubble and the world moving around you.”
Viral Video: How I Became The Bomb
Powerful. Over 9.8 million views.
From the opening of the clip:
Artist Marina Abramovic and boyfriend Ulay started an intense love affair in the 1970s, performing out of a van they called home.
When they ended their relationship they decided to walk the Great Wall of China, each from one end, meeting for one last embrace in the middle.
That was the last time they saw each other…
In 2010, as part of her MoMA retrospective, ‘The Artist Is Present,’ Marina shared a moment of silence with each stranger who sat in front of her.
On opening night, Ulay arrived without Marina knowing…
Look for the 1:30 mark, where you’ll be able to see the moment her old boyfriend shows up at her display. It was the first time they saw each other after more than 30 years, and there are no words for their reactions.

Big Time Rush answers letter to Santa for girl bullied at school
Well, this has got to be the feel good moment of the day.
Amber and Ryan Suffern are twins, and like many twins they have a close understanding about how each other feels.
Amber suffers from ADHD, depression and mood disorder. As if it wasn’t enough to cope with those issues, kids at her school would bully and abuse her. One day Amber shared with her mother, Karen Suffern, “sometimes I just feel like I wanna die so they’ll leave me alone.”
At school Ryan would protect his sister as much as he could but he felt something bigger might be needed to address the problem. Santa Claus.
Asked by his mother to write an early letter to Santa, Ryan Suffern wrote:
“Dear Santa … I wanted a [remote control] car and helicopter, but I don’t want that any mor. Kid at school are still picking on Amber and its not fair because she doesnt do anything to them … I prayed that they will stop but god is bisy and needs your help. Is it against the rules to give gift early?”
“Can you ask Big Time Rush to come to Amber’s birthday party? It will make her so happy. If you can’t get them to come, but just get her everything she asks for. Thanks, Santa,”
The Santa letter went viral after their mother shared it on her Facebook for friends to see. Well, more than just friends saw it. The letter went viral quickly.
Good Morning America saw the letter and co-anchor Josh Elliot to talk to the family. What Amber didn’t know during the interview was that her favorite band, Big Time Rush, was waiting in the wings to surprise her as an early birthday present, just what Ryan wished for. The family will also be VIP guests of the band at a concert this weekend in New York City.
The letter also opened a dialogue between Suffern to open a dialogue with her children’s school, and begin to make things better for Amber.
Check out the video documenting the feel good story on Good Morning America’s Yahoo page.
Let’s hear it for Big Time Rush for stepping in and making an 8 year old girl’s birthday so great.
Happy Friday everyone!
