Crossfit Fires Executive After Anti-LGBT Tweets

Former employee Russell Berger was fired on Wednesday for attacking the LGBTQ community for celebrating Pride Month

Earlier this week, the management of a Crossfit gym in Indianapolis cancelled an LGBT-themed workout via an email sent to members. The email explained that the event was cancelled because “the owners of the gym value health and wellness, and they believe that this event does not.”

From the email:

“Our underlying goal for the staff and members at CrossFit Infiltrate and our other gyms CrossFit White River and University Ave CrossFit, is total health and well-being for the individual and the community. Total health involves the body, the emotions, relationships, and the spirit. At the foundational detractor from health, as we believe God sets the parameters for, is pride. We believe that true health forever can only be found within humility, not pride. Humility is seeing oneself as they truly are, and as God truly defines them to be. As a business we will choose to deploy our resources towards those efforts and causes that line up with our own values and beliefs.”

Russell Berger, “Chief Knowledge Officer” for CrossFit, attacked the LGBTQ community saying all expressions of “pride” are sin in a series of tweets which have now been deleted.

One of the tweets read, “As someone who personally believes celebrating “pride” is a sin, I’d like to personally encourage #CrossFitInfiltrate for standing by their convictions and refusing to host an @indypride workout. The intolerance of the LGBTQ ideology toward any alternative views is mind-blowing.”

CrossFit CEO Greg Glassman placed Berger on unpaid leave shortly after that tweet.

He then before fired him Wednesday evening. In an interview, Glassman called Berger a “zealot” who needed to “shut the fuck up.”

Michele Bachmann feels people should be tolerant of other people’s intolerance

Michele Bachmann appeared on CNN’s The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer Wednesday and used part of her time to urge “tolerance for the community of people who hold sincerely held religious beliefs.”

While the congresswoman said she respects both sides of the debate, she said she did not think Governor Jan Brewer should veto the bill as other conservatives have been urging her to do.

Asked by Blitzer if the bill will “open the door for less tolerance for gays,” Bachmann answered, “In fact, it’s just the opposite. This is a decided level of intolerance. It’s effectively eviscerating the rights of freedom of speech, expression and religious expression for the people of Arizona and it sets a terrible precedent.”

Blitzer pushed back, calling the bill “discriminatory” and not “respectful” to the gay community. Blitzer also corrected predicted that Gov. Brewer was going to veto the bill.

Glenn Beck: Religious Right lost the war against marriage equality

Right Wing Watch points to this discussion between Glenn Beck and Mark Driscoll who agree that anti-gay activists have “lost the war” and that the Religious Right is over as a movement, as Christians must now begin to reframe debate as a plea for tolerance.

Says Driscoll, “the Religious Right, the Moral Majority, everybody put those t-shirts away, nobody is wearing them.”

“Right,” Beck said. “That is over.”

Twitchy erupts over Broadway’s “Kinky Boots” inclusion in Thankgsgiving Day Parade

Over on Twitchy, a very right-wing/anti-gay website, the folks are losing their minds that the fab “Kinky Boots” from Broadway was included in this years’ Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade.

I’m thinking a lot of these folks could benefit from seeing the show and learning the positive life lessons of the show.

Check out just some of the responses below:

While we’re talking about the 6 time Tony Award winning show, let’s take a look at their performance on NBC today:
