Libertarian Gary Johnson: Not Knowing Where Countries Are Would Help Us Stay Out Of Wars

Speaking with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell this morning, Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson defended his latest on-air flub of not being able to name a current foreign leader he admires by asserting that not knowing where countries are could help keep the U.S. out of wars.

“The fact that somebody can dot the i’s and cross the t’s on a foreign leader or a geographic location then allows them to put our military in harm’s way.”

He also said our soldiers have PTSD because: “It’s because we elect people who can can dot the i’s and cross the t’s on these names and geographic locations.”

Twitter was not impressed:

Gary Johnson Has Another “Aleppo Moment”

Poor Gary Johnson.

He finally gets an hour on TV to promote his nascent Libertarian run for president, and he blanks again on a softball question from MSNBC’s Chris Matthews.

Matthews asks Johnson to name a current foreign leader of he likes, and Johnson comes up with nada.

Not even Justin Trudeau of Canada or Mexican President Peña Nieto, our neighbors?

No Debate For You, Gary Johnson & Jill Stein

The Commission on Presidential Debates previously decided that to be invited to take part in the first presidential debate coming up on Monday, September 26, a candidate had to have at a minimum average of 15% of five specific national polls.

Those polls are ABC-Washington Post, CBS-New York Times, CNN-ORC, Fox News and the NBC/Wall Street Journal.

The Commission announced today that only Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump meets or exceeds that requirement.

Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson and Jill Stein of the Green Party failed to reach the threshold of 15%.

Johnson averaged 8.4%, and Stein found an average of 3.2% support.

The result is bad news not only for Johnson and Stein, but for Trump, who will now have to face Hillary Clinton one on one. Clinton is a skilled debater armed with tons of facts to address questions. The Trump campaign has shared that their candidate doesn’t feel the need to do any serious prep for the three presidential debates.

Should make for very interesting TV.

Libertarian Gary Johnson – “What Is Aleppo?”

During an appearance by Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” this morning, Mike Barnicle Johnson asked Johnson his thoughts on Aleppo, and Johnson seemed stumped by the question:

Johnson: “What is Aleppo?”

Barnicle: “You’re kidding.”

Johnson: “No.”

Barnicle: “Aleppo is in Syria. It’s the epicenter of the refugee crisis.”

Host Joe Scarborough couldn’t resist commenting:

“You asked, ‘What is Aleppo?’ Do you really think that foreign policy is so insignificant that somebody running for president of the United States shouldn’t even know what Aleppo is, where Aleppo is, why Aleppo is so important?”

Johnson’s campaign released a statement on the gaffe which read:

“Yes, I understand the dynamics of the Syrian conflict — I talk about them every day. But hit with “What about Aleppo?”, I immediately was thinking about an acronym, not the Syrian conflict. I blanked. It happens, and it will happen again during the course of this campaign,” Johnson said in the statement. “Can I name every city in Syria? No. Should I have identified Aleppo? Yes. Do I understand its significance? Yes.”

Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson Announces Another Libertarian Run For President

Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson has decided he’s going to make another run for the White House.

Back in 2012, Johnson began for a run president as a Republican, but dropped out of the Republican race to run as a Libertarian getting over 1.2 million votes.

For those counting, that’s about 1% of the vote.

Johnson regards himself as a fiscal conservative and social liberal. He’s pro-LGBT and pro-choice.

Since he left the governor’s mansion, he’s been working with a new company selling marijuana products. Legalizing pot was a passion for the two-term governor.

Johnson made his announcement today during a Fox Business News interview.

Libertarian Party chooses former NM Gov. Gary Johnson as presidential candidate

The Libertarian Party on Saturday chose former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, who was once a Republican White House hopeful, as its presidential candidate in the November 6 election.

Johnson, who announced in December he would run for
president as a Libertarian after mounting a long-shot candidacy for the
Republican nomination, won 70 percent of the votes cast by 632 delegates
at the party’s convention in Las Vegas, Libertarian Party spokesman
Stephen Gordon said.

Johnson, who became the
front-runner after winning straw polls at 12 previous state debates,
beat Air Force veteran R. Lee Wrights, after the field narrowed to two
candidates from six at the start of the convention on Thursday.
