Ralph Lauren Cuts Ties With Pro Golfer Over Homophobic Slur

The Ralph Lauren Corporation has announced an end to their 7-year sponsorship of pro golfer Justin Thomas less than a week after Thomas was heard using the word ‘faggot’ after missing a putt at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.
The remark occurred after Thomas attempted a five-foot putt at the fourth hole when his shot went astray. He could clearly be heard saying “fa**ot” in frustration.
Big fan, not a great look.
Are we gonna apologize for the language here @JustinThomas34 @PGATOUR ? pic.twitter.com/QvIYdOv7F9 — Imsolazy (@DustyBurlap) January 10, 2021
Upon finishing the round, Thomas was informed his remark had been picked up by the TV microphones. He was apparently unaware he’d even used the word.
The Golf Channel spoke to Thomas, currently ranked #3 in the world, about the remark and he immediately expressed his regret for using the word.
“It’s inexcusable – first off I just apologize,” said Thomas. “There’s no excuse. I’m an adult, a grown man. There’s absolutely no reason for me to say anything like that. It’s terrible. I’m extremely embarrassed. It’s not who I am. It’s not the kind of person that I am. Unfortunately I did it and I have to own up to it.”
“I found out when I got done with my round…it’s bad,” he added. “There’s no other way to put it. I need to do better.”
“I deeply apologize to everybody and anybody who I offended and I’ll be better because of it.”
The next day, Thomas finished the tournament in third place banking a $490,000 payday.
Apology aside, Ralph Lauren Corporation announced on Friday they were “disheartened” by the incident and distanced themselves from Thomas saying the use of the slur is “entirely inconsistent with our values.”
The full statement from the Ralph Lauren Corporation:
At the Ralph Lauren Corporation, we believe in the dignity of all people, regardless of age, race, gender identity, ethnicity, political affiliation or sexual orientation. This is part of our longstanding commitment to foster cultures of belonging – in the workplace and in communities around the world.
We are disheartened by Mr. Thomas’s recent language, which is entirely inconsistent with our values. While we acknowledge that he has apologized and recognizes the severity of his words, he is a paid ambassador of our brand and his actions conflict with the inclusive culture that we strive to uphold.
In reflecting on the responsibility we have to all of our stakeholders, we have decided to discontinue our sponsorship of Mr. Thomas at this time. As we make this decision, our hope is that Mr. Thomas does the hard and necessary work in order to partner with us again – truly examining this incident, learning, growing and ultimately using his platform to promote inclusion.
Gay former professional golfer Maya Reddy told Sky Sports this week that Thomas’ anti-LGBTQ language reflects homophobia in professional golf. In 2016, Reddy qualified at the age of 23 to play on the Symetra Tour – the LPGA’s developmental tour – but decided to walk away from the sport due to incidents of discrimination and a lack of inclusivity in the culture of professional golf. “I had tournament directors on mini-tours say xenophobic, racist, and homophobic things to me on the first tee, in the guise of a joke,” explained Reddy. “I’m kind of in two minds about it,” said Reddy about the Thomas incident. “I think the fact that he apologised about it so quickly and with force, saying that this wasn’t OK and that he should do better, is really important because he acknowledges the harm that using that specific slur causes. “I think the PGA Tour saying that it wasn’t OK and acknowledging the harm it causes is also very important,” she added. “That being said, what is frustrating for me and many who watched this play out, was that it was so easy for him to jump to that word.”
Golfer Justin Thomas Apologizes For ‘Fa**ot’ Remark

Justin Thomas, currently the #3 pro golfer in the world, was apparently surprised to learn that television cameras caught him using a homophobic slur after missing a putt at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii on Saturday.
Thomas was attempting a five-foot putt at the fourth hole when his shot went astray. He could clearly be heard saying “faggot” in frustration.

The Golf Channel spoke to a clearly chagrined Thomas about the remark and he expressed his regret for using the word.
Thomas expanded on those thoughts speaking to NBC Golf after finishing third on Sunday.
“I wish that I could learn to grow a different way than the way that I chose to do it, but unfortunately it’s in the past and there’s nothing I can do about it now,” said the 27-year-old.
“It definitely was a distraction out there today. But now I just get to take time going forward and try to become better because of it.”
Thomas banked a $490,000 payday for his third place finish. Some on social media defended Thomas’s use of the slur:
Wait… he’s on a golf green, no people, persons, theys, thems, there’s, that’s, hers, hims, she’s, shems or hims around… so he’s clearly not directing this statement at an individual, merely a moment in time that frustrated him. What are we doing here, let this man f@cking golf
— Patrick Hughes (@Projektpat205) January 10, 2021
Every golfer understands his frustrations and has said much worse than this. I guarantee 99% of people “offended” by this don’t golf nor watch it, but seizing an opportunity to shame a good man like the vultures they are. He apologized, let it go.
— Bake (@RolinBaker) January 10, 2021
Yeah I think we need to all relax on this one. JT is only human and did apologise let’s not make this more than what it is a little slip of the tongue 👅. It happens to us all💪🏌🏻♂️
— JP O’Donnell (@JPMuttODonnell) January 10, 2021
What the hell, man! JT was one of my faves! This is such a bummer. Why is that even in his vocabulary or thinking process? Why not not just say ‘fuck’ or something else vulgar, but saying ‘fag’ means else he’s got some issues upstairs!Apologies mean nothing if it’s not accidental.
— Kavita Milurd (@KavitaMilurd) January 10, 2021
He said it which means it is in his mental wheel house. The apology is irrelevant. His being homophobic is an entirely different matter and THE more relevant matter. Now YOU get over it.
— Bill Strippoli (@BillStrippoli) January 10, 2021
A Cincinnati son of Marty Brennaman ( Thom ) just lost his major national TV job by saying the exact same word ( Caught on a hot mike during commercial ). These are professionals who are on TV. I know many other expletives he could have used other than this.
— Daryle Davis (@DaryleDavis1) January 10, 2021
All these straight people saying he doesn’t need to apologize. . . The slur has been so normalized amongst them that they think they own it.
— Jon C (@J_cody768) January 10, 2021
So many replies here making fun 8f triggered people. But ya know. Why is it NEVER “whitie” “craqqer” or “honqey” when a slur falls out “accidentally”? Why is it always antigay\black slurs? Funny huh? #MisspelledOnPurposeSTFU

Homophobe Hurls Every Gay Slur She Knows At Spa Customer “F*ggot, Sissy, Queer!”
Facebook user Christopher Brown stopped by his favorite foot spa on December 30 to treat himself to some post-holiday pampering.
But shortly after he sat down for him mani-pedi, he became the target of a rude woman who called him “f*ggot,” “sissy” and “queer.”
The altercation began when Brown asked the woman if she would take her phone off speak as she was carrying on a full voice conversation with her daughter via FaceTime. There were signs in the spa requesting customers to keep noise to a minimum.
Her response? According to Brown, she told her daughter, “Hold on, I need to take care of this f*ggot.”
That’s when he began recording the incident.
The woman demanded that the spa employees throw Brown out saying he had “harassed” her in asking her to turn down her volume.
“It’s either him or me,” the woman says over and over in the video. “He bothered me for no reason. He harassed me for no reason, telling me to get off of my phone.”
When her demands aren’t met, she finally gets up to leave, telling Brown, “Keep recording sissy, keep recording because you probably wish you had a c*nt like me, right?”
And as she storms out she throw out a string of homophobic slurs, “F*ggot, sissy, queer, fag – eat my p*ssy!”
Doesn’t she seem nice?
In posting the video to Facebook, where it’s garnered over 218K views since last Thursday, Brown says he shared the incident to show that “even in the Seattle region, life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows for the LGBT community.”
He adds, “There’s still work to do folks. #resist.”

Stormy Daniels Cancels Florida Gig After Club Owner Calls Her Asst “F*cking F*ggot”

Porn star Stormy Daniels was back in the national news this week as sentencing memos for Donald Trump’s former ‘fixer,’ Michael Cohen, were issued.
Additionally, though, Stormy was getting ink on Twitter last night when she canceled an appearance in Fort Lauderdale after a strip club owner allegedly called her assistant a “fucking faggot.”
According to Stormy, the cancellation cost her $6,800 but it was the right thing to do.
Sorry everyone who was planning to see me at Goldfingers tonight but I will NOT be performing. The owner called my assistant a “fucking faggot” after I refused to do something not in my contract. This abuse will not be tolerated.— Stormy Daniels (@StormyDaniels) December 8, 2018
I didn’t cancel. They told us to “get the fuck out” because owner wanted me to do my show in VIP room instead of the stage. Sorry…but no. I will not be bullied or have my employees abused. Ask for a refund from the club.— Stormy Daniels (@StormyDaniels) December 8, 2018
They told us to leave…because I refused to perform in VIP room. And if you have employees, I feel sorry for them. The owner was both physically aggressive&used hate speech. How is that people seeing my tits matters more than that? Your priorities are more questionable than mine— Stormy Daniels (@StormyDaniels) December 8, 2018
And to put it in perspective…I’m very sorry to those who paid to see me tonight but keep in mind that I forfeited a $6800 paycheck by doing what I felt was the right thing to do for someone I care about.— Stormy Daniels (@StormyDaniels) December 8, 2018
Looks like I am here. Saying I am a “no show” is slander. pic.twitter.com/ClpMbqo8Kv— Stormy Daniels (@StormyDaniels) December 8, 2018
‘Diesel Hate Couture’ Fashion Line Using Word ‘Faggot’ Gets Mixed Reactions
![]() |

Fashion brand Diesel is facing some backlash over a new limited edition clothing line that includes a pricey silk jacket with a homophobic slur printed all over it.
The jacket, which is part of the company’s ‘Diesel Hate Couture’ line, features the word ‘faggot’ printed multiple times in a random pattern.
The line includes several types of items like t-shirts, hoodies, bomber jackets, hats and more.
“The truth is this: the more you expose the hate you get, treating it with irony and irreverence, the less power it has to cause harm,” Diesel told Hypebeast last month. “This is why we are launching HAɄTE COUTURE. A unique collection designed to do just that: disempower hate.”
The concept behind the provocative clothing is to reclaim online hate using the slogan, ‘The more hate you wear, the less you care.’
Other terms used in the line include ‘slut,’ ‘fat,’ ‘weirdo,’ ‘not cool’ and ‘f*ck you imposter.’
While outrageous, none seem quite as inflammatory or hateful as the f-word.
“Online hate is inevitable, but caring about it is optional,” writes Diesel on the YouTube page for the ad spot below.
The video begins by explaining all of the terms used were picked by the cast members from actual hate comments they’ve received via social media.
You can see openly gay actor Tommy Dorfman (Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why) wearing the controversial jacket, which sells for a whopping £350. The jacket appears to be available only on the brand’s UK website.
Also taking part in the video are Nicki Minaj, Gucci Mane, Miles Heizer, Barbie Ferreira, Bella Thorne, Yoo Ah-In, Bria Vinaite, Yovanna Ventura and Jonathan Bellini.
“Our aim has always been to disempower those that create the hate and manifest negativity,” said Diesel in a statement to Mic last month. “Every individual cast within the campaign relates personally to the issue itself.”
“To bring awareness to the wider issue, each chose a phrase that they wanted to wear proudly with the goal of empowering others to take a stance,” the statement continued. “Together, Diesel and Tommy Dorfman use this as a platform to disempower the haters and show the more hate you wear, the less you care.”
Dorfman also tweeted: “All proceeds from this jacket are benefitting the Ali Forney Center in NY which provides shelter, food and programs to homeless LGBTQ+ youth.”
The items came online last month, but responses on social media has been coming in waves.
Some folks like the idea, but others call the idea “offensive” and “disgusting.”
No, @DIESEL. Wearing a derogatory word scrawled all over your back is not the way to combat hate £350 though. I mean, a bargain really. pic.twitter.com/EndIJNo2nA— Andrew Hayden-Smith (@AndrewHaydSmith) October 12, 2018
What the flying fricken hell is this????? I have the strongest hate for this word and the way it’s thrown around like it’s nothing, and they’ve just gone and put it all over a jacket. It isn’t a positive word that should be plastered all over a jacket. Bold move diesel bold move.— Char (@charbirtlesx) November 7, 2018
Is @DIESEL drunk? I’m no snowflake but this is horrendous. pic.twitter.com/QQVtifO0MU— NickHorbowyj (@NickHorbowyj) November 7, 2018
So who’s getting sacked then @DIESEL ? This is fucking mental. https://t.co/CZSIZPjdEo— Matt James East (@mattjeast_) November 7, 2018
This is disgusting from @DIESEL. Are offensive words fashion now? #homophobia this can’t be allowed pic.twitter.com/29Z6TnNJaU— Danny (@r2danny2) November 7, 2018
To be honest, I’m with Diesel on this one. Ny taking ownership of a word you take away its power. I’m gay and faggot is my favourite word. It’s also used frequently within my circle of friends both gay and straight. I’d wear that jacket. https://t.co/Km8Qv9Tk4J— Friends Call me Dom (@Duke_Silverback) November 8, 2018
We STAND with @Diesel and their FAGGOT jacket. And if you dont, you are a huge hypocrite. Also:

What do you think, readers? Is this like the LGBTQ community reclaiming the word ‘queer?’ Or is this just a bad idea?
Jonah Hill on The Tonight Show: “I’m heartbroken and deeply sorry” over using anti-gay slur
Jonah Hill stopped by The Tonight Show last night where he offered a heartfelt apology (again) for his much publicized use of a gay slur over the weekend.
After being antagonized at length by a paparazzo, Hill was captured on video telling the photog to “suck my dick, you faggot.”
Addressing the Tonight Show audience, Hill said that he is “heartbroken” and that he is “deeply sorry to anyone who’s ever been affected by that term.”
Hill also appeared on the Howard Stern radio show and Good Morning America to offer his apologies
