Avengers Assemble for dying fan’s wish

Chris Evans (“Captain America”)

Stratford Caldecott, dying from prostate cancer, had a last dying wish – one that became one of the greatest superhero gifts ever.

Stratford, a big Marvel comics fan, wanted to live long enough to be able to see The Avengers: Age Of Ultron. So his daughter Sophie, with nothing to lose, posted the following request on her personal blog:

“We’re going to try and get in touch with Marvel to ask if they can fulfill dad’s dying wish by sending us a copy of the film for him to watch at home. But I think we can go further than that. We’re also going to tweet the Avengers actors and see if they will take a picture of themselves holding a sign saying ‘Captain America/Thor/Iron Man [insert name of character here] for Strat!’ so that we can surprise him with their messages of support and encouragement.”

So what happens next?

Shortly thereafter, a Marvel executive arrived at her door, followed by Captain America: The Winter Soldier screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely with a promise to deliver a copy of the movie to her dad.

But – it gets better. Look below…

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” tops box office for third week

Chris Evans

My man Chris Evans’ latest movie – Captain America: The Winter Soldier – continued to top the box office this weekend as the Marvel super-hero flick added another $26.6 million to its current $201.5 million domestic total.

Rounding out the top 5 were:

2. Rio 2 – another $22.5 million for a $75.3 million total to date
3. Heaven Is For Real – $21.5 million
4. Johnny Depp sci-fi thriller Transcendence came in at $11.1 million
5. A Haunted House 2 starring Marlon Wayons and Jaime Pressley earned $9.1 million

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” breaks box office record for April

Give it up for Chris Evans and company, as the new Marvel flick Captain America: The Winter Soldier flexed some super-hero muscles to break April box office records with a $93 million debut in the US.

From the Hollywood Reporter:

Winning over critics and moviegoers alike, Marvel and Disney’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier grossed $37 million from 3,938 theaters on Friday, the biggest day ever for the month of April, not accounting for inflation. The superhero sequel is expected to earn $93 million-plus for the weekend, also an April best.

Overseas, where it opened ahead of its North American launch, the $170 million tentpole has already earned $132.2 million and should finish Sunday with a whopping global total of $270 million or more — only $100 million behind the $370.6 million earned by Captain America: The First Avenger in its entire run. So far, Captain America 2 is pacing 40 percent ahead of the first film, which debuted in May 2011.

Coming in at number two, the biblical epic Noah fell nearly 60% in it’s second weekend.

Yahoo!!! Can’t wait to see hunky Chris Evans in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” this weekend.

In this sequel, Evans joins forces with the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) to hunt down an enemy in the nation’s capital.  In theaters now.

And although he looks striking in costume, just a reminder how great Chris is without the suit…

Chris Evans and brother Scott play “Sibling-wed Game” on Tonight Show

Scott Evans (L) and Chris Evans (R)

Chris Evans sat down with Jimmy Fallon last night on The Tonight Show to promote his new movie “Captain America – The Winter Soldier” which opens this Friday.  Can’t wait!

As part of the festivities, however, Jimmy asked Chris’ brother, Scott Evans (who played gay cop Oliver Fish on One Life To Live), to come out and play the “Sibling-Wed Game,” where each brother is asked questions and they must try to give the same answer.

From the sound of things, it looks like Chris got the best of Scott a lot of the time while growing up.  But they both are very cute in the segments.  Chris’ joy over the childhood events is contagious.

Chris Evans on the cover of VARIETY

I’m looking at the cover pic above and I need a second to compose myself.  Hold on…

Ok.  I’m good now.

Chris Evans recently made headlines saying that once his contract with the Marvel/Captain America movies was completed, he may quit acting all together.  In this feature essay for Variety, he talks about where he sees his future headed:

The 32-year-old actor spent his winter hiatus from the Marvel universe directing his debut feature, an intimate $3 million love story tentatively called “1:30 Train,” which focuses on a young woman (Alice Eve) who misses her ride home at Grand Central Terminal and spends the night talking to a street musician (played by Evans). He shot the film on Manhattan’s Lower East side over the course of just 19 days, and recently finished editing a rough cut.

“I’ve known for a while I wanted to direct,” Evans says. “But (time) never really opens up. There’s another movie to do, there’s another acting job. It just got to a point where I was like, you know what — I have to do this.”

Evans admits he could change his mind in the future about his career trajectory. “For all I know, in five years, I might say, ‘Shit, I miss acting.’ Right now, I just want to get behind the camera and make movies.” He recently had a candid conversation with his team about it. One of his agents even tried to twist his arm, asking, “What if, hypothetically, some role came along and it was great?” Evans wouldn’t budge. “We are turning a corner,” he told his rep.

Chris Evans may take a break from acting after Marvel movies

“I would never trade in the decision to have done [Marvel] movies. I’ve been wildly fortunate. I just don’t know if my heart’s as in it as it once was.

“I think when I’m done with this Marvel contract, I’ll take a little break from acting.” – Captain America‘s Chris Evans talking to Glamour UK

And my heart breaks just a bit.

I’ll need a moment here…
