False AI-Generated Military Report Nearly Began War With China

An intelligence report that circulated throughout the US military this spring immediately set off alarm bells: A Chinese ship in the Middle East was reportedly transporting components of a nuclear weapons program.

The U.S. military had swung into high gear — armed members prepping to board the ship, planes in the air — when officials realized the report had been generated with the aid of an AI chatbot that had misidentified the ship’s cargo. • New York Times: The House of Representatives voted 222-209 to end federal government shutdown with six Democrats voting to support it, and two Republicans voting against it.

• Daily Dance: Wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin and pro Witney Carson dance a lovely Foxtrot to “Footprints In The Sand” by Leona Lewis in honor of his father, Steve Irwin. It amazes me Robert had no prior dance experience. The icing on the cake is his sister, Bindi, at the end of the dance. Brazil Launches AI Platform To Scan For Anti-LGBTQ Hate Speech

Brazil’s Ministry of Human Rights has launched an AI platform that will scan the internet looking for statements it considers hate speech against the LGBTQ community. The long-running grand-daddy of LGBTQ blogs, JoeMyGod, recently celebrated its 21st “blogiversary.” Run by Joe Jervis, JMG is one of my favorite sources of news. Many folks refer to JMG as the country’s “gay editor-in-chief” for his extensive news consolidation. And he has the busiest comment section I’ve ever seen on a blog with hundreds of comments on every post. As part of his annual “blogiversary” post, Joe asked AI bots what they knew about his site and shared screen captures of the responses.
