The CROWN With a SHADOW, a mixed-media short animated film by gay Tribeca Film Festival award-winner JB Ghuman, Jr., made its world premiere at the Outfest Film Festival this weekend starring a constellation of queer and trans actors including Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman), Oscar winner Tatum O’Neal, and nonbinary performer iRAWniQ, as well as icon Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice of the Spice Girls). Trailer: “Sausage Party”

In essence, Sausage Party uses the Pixar formula as its starting point and finishes somewhere around Lars Von Trier’s The Idiots. The premise is simple: What if food could feel? No, that’s not quite it. It’s more like What if food could feel, and swear, and be racist and have sex? It stars Seth Rogen as Frank, a hot dog, and Kristen Wiig as Bun, his girlfriend. The pair live in their respective packages along with every other item in a fictional grocery store (“Shopwell”) where all items of food belong to a religion that worships the human shoppers as gods who they pray will select them and take them into “the great beyond,” the food version of heaven.

Obviously, the truth is that when they’re “chosen,” the food is taken from the comfort and ease of their grocery store to their doom. What happens when Frank, Bun and several of their new and old friends discover that horrifying truth forms the meat of the story.

Animated web-series: Somewhere in Palm Springs

Life is hard when you have to wait four minutes for a waiter

Somewhere In Palm Springs is the story of 3 gays and their pet gal pal.

Series description: “Life is hard when you’re young, dumb and hungry…poolside in Palm Springs, California. Somewhere In Palm Springs is the harrowing tale of 4 friends forced to wait a normal amount of time for their lunch to arrive to their lounge chairs — they share hopes, dreams, neuroses, and the sordid details of their various one night stands. They may be vapid, but, hey, at least they’re vapid.”

Thankfully, my group of gays does NOT act quite like this.

To be specific, “not QUITE” like this.  However, we can have a high maintenance moment here or there.

I, of course, am easy-breezy all the time.

Gorgeous animated short film advocating fresh foods

Wow.

So, first this is really, really well done. The animation is gorgeous and the story-telling compelling.

And, to be honest, you don’t see Chipotle’s name in the short. They just make a great point how and why fresh foods without additives are better for us.

Not preachy and kind of moving.
