GOP Rep. Allen West: I was cheated
Rep. Allen West is still a bad loser:
“I’m a warrior and I’m a statesman and I’m a servant of this republic. I’m not going away just because of a congressional race where he seems to have to cheat to beat me.”
Anti-gay Rep. Allen West finally concedes failed re-election bid
After two weeks of refusing to accept that vote-counting by officials in St. Lucie County, Florida, favored his opponent Patrick Murphy, including a recount which extended Murphy’s lead, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) conceded the race late Tuesday, Politico reports:
West acknowledged that he couldn’t surmount his 1,904-vote, or 0.58 percent, deficit. That difference was just outside the 0.5 percent threshold to automatically trigger a recount of all votes.
Said West in a statement:
“For two weeks since Election Day, we have been working to ensure every vote is counted accurately and fairly. We have made progress towards that goal, thanks to the dedication of our supporters and their unrelenting efforts to protect the integrity of the democratic process. While many questions remain unanswered, today I am announcing that I will take no further action to contest the outcome of this election… I pray he will serve his constituents with honor and integrity, and put the interests of our nation before his own.”
Florida: US Rep. Allen West loses his seat to Patrick Murphy; won’t concede
The Palm Beach Post is reporting that US Rep Allen West has lost his re-election campaign to Patrick Murphy in Florida’s 18th Congressional district, but West won’t concede:
The final tally — still considered unofficial — put Murphy ahead of West by 2,429 votes. Overall, Murphy captured 166,799 votes to West’s 164,370 in District 18, which spans portions of Martin, St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties. An automatic recount is triggered by a margin of 0.5 percent. Murphy’s lead gives him a .7 percent advantage. All ballots in Martin and St. Lucie counties have been counted.
Those tallies include all election day, early voting and absentee ballots.
In addition to declaring on his Facebook page that the race is “far from decided,” West filed lawsuits to have ballots and voting machines impounded in Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties. The judge in Palm Beach threw the case out on Friday, though, telling West’s lawyers that their arguments fell “woefully short” of what was required for an injunction.
A St. Lucie judge is slated to hear West’s case on Tuesday.
Congressman Allen West accuses the Obama administration of “cooking the books” over falling unemployment numbers
Funny how when the numbers went up, they were accurate; now that they are falling, they must be wrong…
If Nixon couldn’t “fix” the numbers at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, what makes Allen West think President Obama could?
And IF he could, why wait until now to do it?
SRSLY.
Rp. Allen West: LGBT workplace discrimination “don’t happen out here”
From Think Progress: Rep. Allen West (R-FL), no stranger to controversy, declared on Thursday that gay people are never fired because of their sexual orientation in the United States.
“That don’t happen out here in the United States of America,” West told ThinkProgress during an interview on Capitol Hill.
When pressed for clarification, the Florida congressman dismissed the importance of protecting LGBT people from discrimination. “I don’t see that as being a big issue with small businesses,” West said.
KEYES: What about something like a law that say that it’s illegal to hire or fire people because they’re gay?
WEST: That don’t happen out here in the United States of America.
KEYES: You don’t think people get fired because they’re gay?
WEST: Well, I don’t see that as being a big issue with small businesses. I sit on the Small Business Committee. You know what they’re concerned about? They’re concerned about onerous tax policy, regulatory policy, and lack of access to capital because Dodd-Frank is absolutely decimating small community banks.
Workplace discrimination against LGBT people is very real. In 29 states, it is perfectly legal to fire you for being gay. (In 34 states you can be fired for being transgender.)
Between 8 and 17 percent of gay and transgender workers have been fired or not hired because of their sexual orientation or gender identity; that rate more than doubles for gay and transgender people who have experienced workplace discrimination.
Rep. Allen West says President Obama needs to “get the hell out of the United States of America”
I have never heard the President be so rude or disrespectful to any member of Congress the way this man does here.
I’m appalled. Have your differences, but no elected Democrat ever said President Bush needed to “get the hell out of the United States of America.”
Sad.
