Special Counsel: ‘No Criminal Charges Warranted’ In Biden Classified Docs Case

Special counsel Robert Hur has concluded his investigation into classified documents found at the home of President Joe Biden. “We conclude that no criminal charges are warranted in this matter,” said Hur’s report summarizing his yearlong probe. In his report, Hur wrote that the evidence “does not establish Mr. Biden’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.” https://twitter.com/NBCNews/status/1755683525896855623 From NBC News:

“Our investigation uncovered evidence that President Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen,” the report said, but the evidence “does not establish Mr. Biden’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”

“We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” it said.

“Based on our direct interactions with and observations of him, he is someone for whom many jurors will want to identify reasonable doubt. It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him — by then a former president well into his eighties — of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.”

Folks on the far-right will undoubtedly scream “unfair” as the case against Donald Trump for having classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida continues. One major difference in the two cases, though: Biden voluntarily returned the documents, consented to the search of multiple locations including his homes, sat for a voluntary interview, and in other ways cooperated with the investigation. Trump did none of those. https://twitter.com/MattGertz/status/1755692672658858120 https://twitter.com/cwebbonline/status/1755684633549906352
