From the New York Times:
Officer Hemphill’s lawyer, Lee Gerald, said in a statement that one of the four videos of the encounter that were released by the city on Friday, labeled Video 1, came from Officer Hemphill’s body camera.
“He was never present at the second scene,” where officers caught up with Mr. Nichols after a brief foot chase and beat him severely, Mr. Gerald said of Officer Hemphill. He added that his client “is cooperating with officials in this investigation.”

In the video referenced by the lawyer, Hemphill is the officer who violently pulled Nichols from his car, tasered Nichols, and is heard saying, “I hope they stomp his ass.”
Submitted without comment: It would be difficult not to note that Hemphill is white, while the five officers charged with second degree murder are Black. Make of that what you will.
Memphis officials today revealed that a SIXTH officer involved in the traffic stop that led to Tyre Nichols’ death has been ‘relieved of duty.’ Ofc. Preston Hemphill violently pulled Tyre from his car, hit him on the ground with a Taser, then said, “I hope they stomp his ass!”

Why did it take so long for Memphis officials to reveal Ofc. Preston Hemphill’s identity and that he was reportedly relieved of duty weeks ago but not yet terminated or charged?
Why was the white officer involved in the brutal attack of #TyreNichols shielded and protected?

it’s already been floating around but Memphis police have a photo of Preston Hemphill on their Facebook site. One thing that stands out is the department says he completed 40 hours of crisis intervention training to join its crisis intervention team. pic.twitter.com/W9sZGvHAbL
