• The Advocate: Pastor Mark Burns, the Trump-endorsed GOP candidate in South Carolina’s 4th Congressional District, has called for the arrest and execution of those who advocate for LGBTQ rights and the protection of trans children.

• ABC7NY: A New York appeals court has upheld a lower court ruling that Happy the elephant, who lives in the Bronx Zoo, is not a person being illegally confined. Animal activists wanted Happy released to a larger sanctuary. Chief Judge Janet DiFiore noted that while Happy isn’t a person, she did acknowledge elephants are “intelligent beings deserving of proper care and compassion.”

• Back2Stonewall: A right-wing extremist who threatened to “hunt” down and shoot LGBTQ+ Americans and their supporters at TARGET’s in Phoenix, Arizona, was arrested over the weekend.

• The Hill: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says he supports a bipartisan framework on gun safety and will likely vote for legislation that reflects it. This would make 11 Republicans in favor of the bill which would likely pass the Senate.

• Justice Department: A federal judge in Miami ordered that a Hialeah resident who allegedly submitted more than $4 million in fraudulent health care claims to Medicare be detained pending trial, after the defendant was arrested on board a jet ski headed south from Key West toward Cuba.

• January 6 Committee: In a preview of Thursday’s January 6 hearing, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said the focus will be on Donald Trump’s efforts to pressure former Vice President Mike Pence into overturning the results of the 2020 presidential election.
