Some news items I thought worth your time: • Entertainment Tonight: Phil Donahue, arguably the king of afternoon talk TV, passed away on Sunday at the age of 88. His award-winning show tackled tough social and political issues, but also pioneered a breezy format that opened the door to successors like Oprah Winfrey. • Bay Area Reporter: A former porn performer and go-go dancer accused of fatally stabbing his boyfriend was sentenced to 15-years-to-life in prison after pleading guilty. • JoeMyGod: The Democratic National Committee released the final 2024 Democratic Party Platform, which includes a large section defending and promoting LGBTQ rights and protections.

• The Advocate: Log Cabin Republicans, a group representing LGBTQ+ conservatives, were so proud that Melania Trump spoke at their April event in Florida. But it turns out she charged a fee of nearly $250K to show up. • Deadline: Donald Trump is so obsessed with pop superstar Taylor Swift that he shared a fake, AI-generated graphic that appeared to show Swift endorsing him for prez with his own caption, “I accept.” Swift did not endorse the orange cheeto in any way.
• CNBC: The stock price for the company that owns Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform hit its lowest price since it began public trading on the Nasdaq nearly five months ago. #SoMuchWinning • The New Yorker: The latest cover of the venerable magazine (illustration by Barry Blitt) captures the current political zeitgeist to perfection.
