Nightbirde (Jane-Marczewski) wowed America’s Got Talent audiences
Nightbirde, real name Jane Marczewski, wowed America’s Got Talent audiences last summer with her original song “It’s Ok,” which the singer shared was about her ongoing cancer journey. The performance ended in a standing ovation and a ‘golden buzzer’ from Simon Cowell himself. “You can’t wait until life isn’t hard anymore before you decide to be happy,” she told the audience. Nightbirde died Feb. 19 at the age of 31 after a four-year battle with cancer, her family confirmed Monday in a statement to the press. “We, her family, are devastated by her passing and unimaginable loss,” the statement read. “Those who knew her enjoyed her larger-than-life personality and sense of humor. She had a witty joke for every occasion — even if the joke was on her.” Related: My Favorite Thing Today – Nightbirde On AGT As a cancer survivor myself, I was speechless after taking in the incredible lightness of being, joy and acceptance in her performance. https://youtu.be/CZJvBfoHDk0 More from TODAY:

Marczewski explained during her audition that she had been fighting cancer for several years, revealing that by then the cancer was in her lungs, spine and liver.

“I have a 2% chance of survival but 2% is not 0%,” the singer said. “Two percent is something and I wish people knew how amazing it is.”

She also said it was “important” to her that people knew she was “so much more than the bad things that happened to me.”

While Nightbirde scored the coveted ‘golden buzzer,’ she was forced to drop out of the show in August to focus on her health. “Sharing my heart with the world on AGT has been an honor and a dream come true,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “What a miracle that the pain I’ve walked through can be reworked into beauty that makes people all over the world open their eyes wider.” https://www.instagram.com/p/CSEuaEyn0sr/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link Cowell and his AGT colleagues shared their thoughts on the impact Nightbirde made on social media:
