The original cast recording from The Devil Wears Prada: A New Musical is set to be released on September 19, and here’s a first taste of the sassy Elton John score with lyrics from Shaina Taub and Mark Sonnenblick.
Based on Lauren Weisberger’s best-selling 2003 novel and the 2006 blockbuster film which went on to gross $326 million worldwide, The Devil Wears Prada tells an inspiring story about discovering what kind of person you truly want to be.
In this song, “Andy” (played by Georgie Buckland) weighs the pros and cons of whether she should take a job offer from powerhouse publishing exec “Miranda Priestley” (played by the fabulous Vanessa Williams).
In addition to the cast in the recording studio, there’s a lot of great visuals from the UK production.
The stylish stage musical has consistently broken sales records since opening at the Dominion Theatre last year, becoming the fastest selling show in the theatre’s history and continues to be a box office hit in the West End.
I saw the show last December and loved it. As you can see in the video, Buckland can sing her face off, and Vanessa is perfection in the role Meryl Streep originated in the movie.
