I’m always up for a new release from out singer/songwriter Calum Scott, and his new power pop anthem, “Lighthouse,” does not disappoint. Opening with piano accompaniment buoyed by a touch of stormy undertow, Scott begins in pensive mode, reining in the powerful vocals yet to come. Then he hits the chorus, the rhythm kicks in, and our guy is soaring. “‘Lighthouse’ is a story about light in the darkness, the hope on the horizon, even if it’s in the distance and almost out of view,” says Scott about the new release. “It reminds you of what’s important and what makes you feel safe.” “It was written at a time when I was missing home, and just getting a FaceTime or a text can be that lighthouse for me,” he adds. “I really pushed my limits to record the vocals on this, tried to sing with as much passion and raw emotion as I could.” https://youtu.be/eWrt85CtL1Q?si=ubsjFNrVt8VVOhHg I have to say, I love a well-produced lyric video. Being introduced to a new song, it’s great to have the words in front of you emphasizing their weight and meaning. This really lands as the song and visuals develop from turbulent nighttime seas to bright and warm morning light.
