Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) made a show of expressing her respect for Confederate soldiers by visiting the Wilder Brigade Monument in Georgia on Tuesday saying she will “always defend our nation’s history!” She may think she’s defending it, but she apparently hasn’t bothered to LEARN our nation’s history. The monument she visited honors Union troops, not Confederate soldiers. In a post to her Truth Social account, Greene wrote, “Tonight, I stopped at the Wilder monument in Chickamauga, GA, which honors the Confederate soldiers of the Wilder Brigade. … I will always defend our nation’s history!” (screen capture) According to the National Park Planner website, the Wilder Monument is an 85-foot tower that was completed in 1903 in honor of Union Colonel John Wilder’s brigade, also known as the Lightning Brigade. Wilder’s mounted infantry earned its nickname due to being armed with the most coveted weapon of the Civil War, the 7-shot Spencer repeating rifle, a forebearer of today’s modern rifles. Wilder’s Brigade had the only Union success at the southern end of the Chickamuaga battlefield, halting advancing Confederates multiple times during the fighting. Mirroring her attempt to rewrite Confederate history, Greene later edited the post. Imagine what hell some staffer must have caught once someone pointed out the mistake. And speaking of mistakes, Greene’s husband is attempting to rectify his own having recently filed for divorce from the congresswoman. https://twitter.com/RawStory/status/1582558566958845952
