French President Macron Wins Reelection In Landslide

French President Emmanuel Macron has won reelection over far-right extremist Marie Le Pen by a margin of 58.8% over 41.2%

French President Emmanuel Macron wins reelection over his opponent, the far-right extremist Marie Le Pen, in a landslide.

At the time of this writing, Macron leads in the vote counting 58.8% over Le Pen’s 41.2%.

Macron will be the first French president in 20 years to win a second term, since Jacques Chirac in 2002.

This was a rematch between Macron and Le Pen in the 2017 presidential race. In the years since Le Pen had attempted to ‘soften’ or ‘clean up’ her extremist image, but her close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin did her no favors as Russia continues its genocidal war against Ukraine.

Two weeks ago, Macron and Le Pen emerged as the top two candidates from a first round of voting.

I think the sad aspect of the election is 41.2% of those to took part in the election gave their vote to a pro-Putin candidate. But Macron winning reelection is a very good thing.
