The official announcement has come: Beanie Feldstein will be leaving the Broadway revival of Funny Girl early (July 31), and GLEE star Lea Michele will be taking over the role of Fanny Brice beginning September 6.

In the interim, Julie Benko will perform the title role from August 2 through September 4 reports Variety.

Feldstein’s shared on Instagram that “playing Fanny Brice on Broadway has been a lifelong dream.” She added that her early departure came about “once the production decided to take the show in a different direction.
