Jane Fonda Diagnosed With ‘Very Treatable’ Cancer

Academy Award winner Jane Fonda, 84, announced on social media she’s been diagnosed with cancer. Fonda shared with her 1.9 million followers on Instagram today that she has non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and is undergoing six months of chemotherapy. https://twitter.com/Variety/status/1565795936709779456 Striking an upbeat tone in her post, Fonda wrote that she feels “lucky” that non-Hodgkins lymphoma is a “very treatable cancer” with an 80% survival rate. She added she’s been “handling the treatments quite well.” The Frankie and Grace star said that she’s found cancer to be a “teacher” and she’s making a point to pay attention to its lessons. “One thing it’s shown me already is the importance of community,” she added. “Of growing and deepening one’s community so that we are not alone. And the cancer, along with my age –almost 85– definitely teaches the importance of adapting to new realities.” https://www.instagram.com/p/CiBDKLeJBy_/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link Fonda also acknowledged she feels lucky for having health insurance and access to “the best doctors and treatments.” Noting that almost every family in America is touched by cancer in some way, she recognized that “far too many don’t have access to the quality health care” she’s receiving and “this is not right.” In her message, she called for people to talk much more not just about cures, but the causes of cancer “so we can eliminate them.” Fonda mentioned fossil fuels and pesticides as two topics that need more discussion. She closed her post with an eye on the mid-term elections in November saying “they are beyond consequential” and she plans on being “right there” continuing her climate activism. As I’ve shared on The Randy Report in the past, in 2009 I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. So I have a pretty good idea of the journey Jane Fonda has ahead of her. Fortunately for me, my cancer was caught early. And like Fonda, I was fortunate to have access to excellent health care.
