Our gardeners showed up yesterday morning, which was a big surprise to us since they always come on Tuesdays. Not only was it a Monday, but it was Labor Day! We leave the back door open a lot of the time so the dogs can go in and out, and I suddenly realized the barking I heard from them was more intense than just ‘barking at the neighbors.’ I walked out to the backyard and there was the gardener on the side of the house with his lawnmower looking at the dogs, waiting for them to get tired of barking or walk away (which wasn’t going to happen). I herded the dogs into the house and started talking to Michael about the barking and how I could tell it was different due to the stress in their voices. Here’s why I write this: ten minutes later, every ad on my social media was about how to stop your dogs from barking. Which brings me to to this very timely article from Futurism.

In a pitch deck to prospective customers, one of Facebook’s alleged marketing partners explained how it listens to users’ smartphone microphones and advertises to them accordingly.
As 404 Media reports based on documents leaked to its reporters, the TV and radio news giant Cox Media Group (CMG) claims that its so-called “Active Listening” software uses artificial intelligence to “capture real-time intent data by listening to our conversations.”
“Advertisers can pair this voice-data with behavioral data to target in-market consumers,” the deck continues.
Are advertisers eavesdropping on our conversations? I’m just saying…the ads in my social media sure do seem awfully timely in regard to issues that come up in daily life. But, what do I know…?
404 Media previously reported Cox Media Group (CMG) was advertising a service that claimed to target ads based on what potential customers said near device microphones. Now, here is the pitch deck CMG sent to prospective companies: https://t.co/o4XxXbZMcD
