I’m sure many of you are watching the over-the-top enthusiasm taking place at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this week. Just in case you might have missed a bit, here are my favorite moments from Night Two. The Dems set the internet on fire with their roll call of states backed by DJ Cassidy, who worked with each state to choose a song that captured a spirit of “unity and celebration” and had meaning to the state. That included appearances like Atlanta’s Lil Jon strutting through the crowd for Georgia to the beats of “Turn Down for What.” Things were a bit different at the RNC…

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff took center stage not to opine on Vice President Kamala Harris’ policy positions, but instead shared how a client offered to set him up on a blind date in 2013. Emhoff, divorced at the time, agreed, and called Harris’ phone number. “I got Kamala’s voicemail, and I just started rambling,” Emhoff recounted. “Kamala saved that voicemail,” Emhoff said of that first message he left for Harris, adding, “And she makes me listen to it on every anniversary.” Michelle Obama absolutely knocked it outta the park with her speech including several killer lines like: “Who’s going to tell him that the job he’s currently seeking might just be one of those ‘Black jobs’?” “For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us,” adding that “his limited, narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hardworking, highly educated, successful people who happen to be Black.” My favorite speech of the night.

Michelle Obama’s full speech: And that was followed – can you believe…? – with former President Barack Obama bringing down the house with his own lineup of zingers. Obama turned his attention to Donald Trump, who he described as “a 78-year-old billionaire who hasn’t stopped whining about his problems since he rode down his golden escalator nine years ago.”
