Highlights: Night Three At The Democratic National Convention

Night Three at the 2024 Democratic National Convention had a whole lotta highlights, but I’ll share just a few here just in case you missed them. Out Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel delivered one of my favorite lines of the night regarding a possible threat to having her same-sex marriage repealed: “By the way, I got a message for the Republicans and the justices of the United States Supreme Court – You can pry this wedding band from my cold, dead, gay hand.” Kelley Robinson, president of the Human Rights Campaign: “Progress is happening, my friends. The 20-plus million LGBTQ+ Americans are living proof of it. We are your friends and your neighbors; your classmates and family.” Out Gov. Jared Polis of Colorado: “I’m excited by (Kamala) Harris’ vision of protecting and expanding our personal freedom, internet freedom and economic freedom… we’re not weirdos telling families who can and cannot have kids, who to marry, or how to live our lives.” Out Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg called for “better politics” and an end to Donald Trump’s “politics of darkness.” But the night belonged to Gov. Tim Walz, who accepted the Democratic nomination for vice president. The moment he spoke about his family immediately went viral as his son Gus stood up, full of emotion saying, “That’s my dad!!!” If your son ever cries like this while cheering for you, just know that you’ve won at life. Here’s that clip plus Tim’s full speech. Talk about a home run…

Check out more speeches from former President Bill Clinton, poet Amanda Gorman, and talk show icon Oprah Winfrey (her first-ever political convention speech).
