Wishing everyone a fun, frolicsome, and happy Independence Day as the country recognizes the birth of our nation.
Here are some Independence Day factoids (via NPR) to share during your July 4th conversations:
• There have been 27 different versions of the official U.S. flag from 1777 to 1960.
• There is an argument that Independence Day should be celebrated on July 2 because the Continental Congress voted on independence on July 2, 1776. But, the Declaration of Independence wasn’t signed until July 4, 1776.
• There are numerous celebrations of U.S. Independence Day abroad.
Celebrations of the United States’ Independence Day happen in Denmark, Norway, Ireland and Sydney, Australia.
• The U.S. is not the only country celebrating freedom on July 4.
It is also Liberation Day in Rwanda, and Republic Day in the Philippines.

Have an awesome holiday and make sure you tune in for my favorite 4th of July tradition – PBS’ A Capitol Fourth tonight at 8pm ET/PT!
One more fun fact – Jack Everly, who conducts the National Symphony Orchestra for the big PBS shindig, was my conductor on Broadway in the 1995 revival of Hello, Dolly!
Happy Independence Day!
