Halloween Viewing: GLAMPING Featuring David Hernandez

What to watch this Halloween? In the new dark psychological thriller Glamping, an influencer’s weekend cabin getaway gets disrupted by the arrival of a creepy masked stalker—who’s played by out American Idol alum (and TRR favorite) David Hernandez!

Despite its seemingly carefree title, Glamping is anything but a lighthearted getaway. The film follows a seemingly idyllic weekend getaway that takes a terrifying turn when a masked killer disrupts the trip of wannabe influencer Olivia and her friends in Big Bear.

The movie, directed by Niki Koss, delves deep into themes of trust, ego, and human fragility when faced with danger.

For Hernandez, the film represents an opportunity to explore the darker sides of human nature and though Glamping is his first major feature film, Hernandez is no stranger to acting.

He has appeared in fourteen vertical short films, a movie musical, multiple theatrical productions and most recently, he won a Broadway World Award for “Best Performer in a Musical” for his performance in the off-Broadway hit Naked Boys Singing.

Landing the role was the result of Hernandez’s self-driven effort. Without an agent at the time, he submitted himself through casting platforms like Actors Access and Casting Networks, sometimes auditioning up to fifteen times a week. When he came across the listing for a horror feature, he was immediately drawn to it.

“The role called for something dark and sinister,” he recalls. “I remember being exhausted after a long day. My eyes were red, hair messy; and I decided to lean into that. I just wanted to do the best I could, and to my surprise, I got it.”

Filming in Topanga Canyon—a location that has hosted classic thrillers like Final Destination and Friday the 13th—brought an eerie energy that heightened the intensity of the experience.

“The nostalgia and vibe were wild,” Hernandez says. “I was like a kid in a candy store, asking the crew a million questions about lighting and setup. I’m fascinated by the magic of film.”

Glamping is available for streaming now (for free!) on Tubi.
