Prosecutors: Golf Course Gunman Left Letter Explaining Intent To Kill Trump

The suspect arrested in connection with a possible second assassination attempt on Donald Trump had penned a “Dear World” letter months before the golf course incident earlier this month. Ryan Routh’s note read, in part: “This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you.”

From CNN:

A witness told investigators that Ryan Wesley Routh had dropped off a box at his home months before, which “contained ammunition, a metal pipe, miscellaneous building materials, tools, four phones, and various letters.”

After learning of the apparent assassination attempt, the witness opened the box, according to the filing.

One letter, addressed to “The World” said: “This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job.”

Routh went on to write that “everyone across the globe” knows that Trump is “unfit to be anything much less a US president.” Federal prosecutors say cell phone towers show that Routh was near Mar-a-Lago and Trump International Golf Course for several days during the month before the incident. Routh was arrested and charged with two firearm offenses. Additional charges could be brought in the case as the investigation continues.
