George Santos Files Resolution To Expel Rep. Jamaal Bowman

House Republicans were hoping truth-challenged Rep. George Santos (R-NY) would announce his resignation at a press conference he’d scheduled for Thursday morning. Instead, Santos declared he is calling for the expulsion of another House member, Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY). https://twitter.com/keithboykin/status/1730240814012326375 From ABC News:

On the brink of being expelled from Congress, embattled Rep. George Santos on Thursday introduced a privileged resolution to expel Democrat Rep. Jamaal Bowman for pleading guilty to a misdemeanor for pulling a fire alarm before the House voted on a spending measure to avert a government shutdown in September.

In the Thursday morning news conference, Santos — who has been scandal-ridden since arriving in Washington earlier this year and is facing federal charges — called the renewed effort to oust him representative of the “chaos” in Congress and continued to insist he will not resign.

“If I leave, they win,” Santos said as he addressed reporters at the House Triangle outside the Capitol. “If I leave, the bullies take place. This is bullying.”

In October, Bowman pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor and agreed to pay the maximum fine of $1,000, write a letter of apology to Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger and serve three months’ probation. Hardly the path Santos has taken amid his many unethical acts. Following Santos’s announcement this morning, Bowman clapped back in a statement saying, “No one in Congress, or anywhere in America, takes soon-to-be former Congressman George Santos seriously. This is just another meaningless stunt in his long history of cons, antics, and outright fraud.” https://twitter.com/jamiedupree/status/1730212113770049808 House Speaker Mike Johnson said a vote on Santos’ expulsion resolution would occur Friday. According to GOP House Whip Tom Emmer, debate on the expulsion resolution will take place Thursday afternoon at 3pm ET.
