L-R Tulsi Gabbard, George Santos (screen capture) Rep.-Elect George Santos (R-NY) made his first television appearance last night since the revelations that he fabricated his resume and personal life for his campaign for New York’s 3rd congressional district. Following a detailed expose of his resume by the New York Times, Santos has admitted to lying about working for high-profile Wall Street companies, graduating from college, being Jewish, and a host of other “embellishments” as he calls them. Former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard was the guest host on Tucker Carlson Tonight, and she calmly held him accountable for his lies. https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1607915712722395139 Gabbard began her chat with Santos asking him his definition of “integrity.” “It means to carry yourself in an honorable way,” he answered. “And I made a mistake. And I think humans are flawed and we all make mistakes, Tulsi. I think we can all look at ourselves in the mirror and admit that once we’ve made a mistake.” “I’m having to admit this on national television for the whole country to see and I have the courage to do so,” he added. To be honest, I’m not sure how much “courage” it takes to admit lies you’ve been caught telling. “The thing is, Congressman-Elect, integrity means yes, carrying yourself with honor,” Gabbard replied. “But it means telling the truth – being a person of integrity And if I were one of those in New York’s third district right now, now that the election is over and finding out all of these lies that you’ve told, not just one little lie or one little embellishment, these are blatant lies. My question is, do you have no shame? Do you have no shame?” Santos tried to pivot: “Tulsi, I can say the same thing about the Democrats and the party. Joe Biden’s been lying to the American people for 40 years. He’s the president of the United States. Democrats resoundingly support him. Do they have no shame?” Gabbard pointedly noted that Biden and the Democrats weren’t the topic of the interview. “This is not about the Democratic Party, though,” she said. “This is about your relationship, frankly with the people who entrusted you to go and fight for them.” https://twitter.com/Acyn/status/1607916810552152064 Gabbard then shifted to his previous claim that he was Jewish, including in a letter to Jewish leaders where he referred to himself as a “proud American Jew.” She calmly asked, “Are you Jewish?” “My heritage is Jewish – I was raised a practicing Catholic,” he replied before whining, “Everybody wants to nitpick at me.” Later in the chat, Santos tried to defend himself saying, “We can debate my resume and how I worked with firms such as Goldman…” But Gabbard stopped him asking, “Is it debatable? Or is it just false?” At one point, Santos insulted the viewers telling Gabbard, “We can have this discussion that’s going to go way above the American people’s heads, but that’s not what I campaigned on.” Watch the full segment below. I’ve not been a fan of Gabbard in the past, but I have to say she conducted the interview well. Her questions were direct and she had pointed follow ups. https://youtu.be/k3sC1Ha2JwU
