Former Las Vegas Councilwoman Michele Fiore Found Guilty Of Fraud

Former Las Vegas City Councilwoman Michele Fiore was convicted of federal conspiracy and wire fraud charges on Thursday for defrauding donors who thought they were contributing to a statue honoring a fallen Las Vegas police officer. I’ve followed Fiore for years as she represented my ward on the Las Vegas city council. Folks here have known she’s a piece of work for some time. It won’t surprise you to learn she often labeled herself as ‘the female Donald Trump.’

From the Las Vegas Review Journal:

Prosecutors accused Fiore of raising tens of thousands of dollars through her charity and political action committee for a statue honoring Metropolitan Police Department officer Alyn Beck, who was shot and killed with his partner in 2014.

But instead of using the money for the statue, prosecutors said Fiore spent the donations on rent, plastic surgery and payments on her daughter’s wedding.

The jury deliberated for less than two hours before finding Fiore guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and six counts of wire fraud.

The statue’s sculptor testified that Fiore never gave money for the memorial. Each conviction carries a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment. Fiore and her team say they will appeal. Sentencing will be held January 6. Fiore had been serving as a Pahrump justice of the peace, but was suspended by the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline the indictment was handed down this summer.
