I recently came across this highlights edit from my first appearance as a local TV guest host here in Las Vegas in September 2015 and thought I’d share it as a #FlashBackFriday post. Valley View Live! was a popular afternoon talk show produced by our local ABC News affiliate KTNV in the mid-2010s, somewhat modeled after The View and The Talk. But no politics here – just news topics of the day, entertainment, and pop culture chat. In addition to the show’s regular three hosts—Rikki Cheese, Megan Telles, and Dao Vu—the producers often invited local personalities and/or Strip headliners to sit in as guest hosts. That’s how I was asked to participate in the reindeer games.
As mentioned, this was my first appearance, and I was happy to be asked back several times during the show’s run. I’d hosted an online radio show and my own podcast by this point, but live TV – with three other hosts! – was a whole new animal for me 🙂 Like other new experiences that have come along in my life, I got the offer, said ‘yes,’ and assumed I’d figure it out. You really do have to skip over fear and try new things. Pro tip: express whatever point you have to share (succinctly, please) and then shut up so others can talk. Valley View Live! came to a close when two of the regular hosts moved on to other opportunities, and the station tweaked its afternoon programming. But in its day, it was ‘required viewing’ for Las Vegans. Take a look to see how you think I did. https://youtu.be/So2YDYudOsQ
