Fani Willis Will Not Be Disqualified From Prosecuting Trump

A judge in Georgia has ruled that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis may continue with the case against Donald Trump and his allies regarding 2020 election interference, but the lead prosecutor – with whom Willis had a romantic relationship – must be removed from the case. https://twitter.com/washingtonpost/status/1768624010491814059 From the Washington Post:

In a 23-page ruling issued Friday, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee wrote that the defendants “failed to meet their burden” in proving that Willis’s relationship with Wade — along with allegations that she was financially enriched through trips the two took together — was enough of a “conflict of interest” to merit her removal from the case.

But the judge also found a “significant appearance of impropriety that infects the current structure of the prosecution team” and said either Willis and her office must fully leave the case or Wade must withdraw.

McAfee made clear that he, too, disapproves of Willis’s and Wade’s actions — including Willis’s angry testimony on Feb. 15.

“This finding is by no means an indication that the Court condones this tremendous lapse in judgment or the unprofessional manner of the District Attorney’s testimony during the evidentiary hearing,” he wrote.

From my perspective, this is about the best Willis was going to get in this kerfuffle. That said, I fully expect Team Trump to appeal this ruling. https://twitter.com/JoyceWhiteVance/status/1768660331792924916 https://twitter.com/ReallyAmerican1/status/1768682684073587145 https://twitter.com/mmpadellan/status/1768643814988599658 https://twitter.com/michaelt5656/status/1768655882047406559
