Out international pop star Elton John teams with newly-independent Britney Spears on the highly-anticipated single, “Hold Me Closer.”
The track is a mashup of John’s 1972 hit “Tiny Dancer” and his 1992 smash “The One” with fresh, new pop/dance production.
The release marks Spears’ first new music since the end of her 13-year conservatorship.
Elton John used a similar musical alchemy when he teamed up with pop star Dua Lipa on the euphoric dance-pop “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)” in 2021.
Spears initially shared her excitement about the release by teasing a snippet of the song on her Instagram account, and then promptly deleted the account.
She then reposted the missive on her Twitter account: “Okie dokie … my first song in 6 years 🎶 !!!! It’s pretty damn cool that I’m singing with one of the most classic men of our time … @eltonofficial 🚀!!!! I’m kinda overwhelmed… it’s a big deal to me !!! I’m meditating more 🧘🏼♀️ and learning my space is valuable and precious !!!”
