Darline Graham: “I’m Not That Informed On National Security”

Trump-endorsed Sen. Darline Graham (R-SC) delivered an embarrassing gaffe last night at a debate among candidates for the U.S. Senate seat she’s currently keeping warm.

As I’ve mentioned several times on TRR, Ms. Graham was handed the Senate seat based on the sole qualification that she’s the late Sen. Lindsey Graham’s sister.

Asked about a national security issue, she told debate moderators that she’s “not that informed” on the topic.

Moderator: Senator, are Taiwan and the South China sea national security issues for the United States and if so, why?

GRAHAM: I’m just going to be honest here; I’m not that informed on national security, so — but I do support the military. My brother was in the Air Force for 33 years…I’m not a polished politician up here. National security is not my thing, not my area of expertise, but I do support the military.

Gasps and boos could be heard in the audience. Mr. Graham, among the Senate’s most hawkish defenders of U.S. national security, had dedicated his Senate career to foreign policy issues.

She also leaned on her oft-repeated argument for voters who doubted her qualifications to serve in the Senate: Her status as a political outsider is an asset.

“I’m not a polished politician up here,” she said.

It’s worth nothing her opponent, Rep. Ralph Norman, had no problem explaining why Taiwan is an economic ally for the United States and worth protecting against China.

Graham also declared the population of South Carolina to be “50 million people” when the actual population count is 5.5 million.
