Several sources are reporting that the 14-year-old daughter of anti-LGBTQ Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was hospitalized last night due to “self-inflicted wounds.”
UPDATE: Cruz’s daughter posted this video to her TikTok account thanking folks for their support and to clarify her current issues “had nothing to do with my sexuality or my father.”
“I’m not suicidal but I am experiencing some mental issues,” she adds. “I’m working through it and getting the help I need.”
@_caro_iguess_ before yall ask yes i am reading from a script, i had a lit ti say and i wanted to day it right so im sorry if it sounds superficial THANK YOU @finn ♰ @Kat for being the best friends ever
Original Post – First, this from the Houston Chronicle:
HPD officials told ABC 13’s Jessica Willey that they received a report of a “teen with self-inflicted wounds” at the residence and confirmed an unidentified teenager was transported from Cruz’s home to a nearby hospital after authorities arrived.
The senator’s office has since issued a statement on the incident. Cruz and his wife Heidi are parents to two daughters.
“This is a family matter and thankfully their daughter is okay,” a representative said in a statement. “There were no serious injuries. The family requests the media respect their daughter’s privacy at this time.”
Cruz’s daughter reportedly came out as bisexual earlier this year via her TikTok profile. We all know how hostile the environment for LGBTQ people in Texas has become in recent years.
HRC’s Supporting and Caring for Our Bisexual Youth found that only 44 percent of bi+ youth said they have an adult they can turn to, compared with 54 percent of lesbian and gay youth, and 79 percent of non-LGBTQ respondents.
According to the Bisexual Resource Center (BRC), approximately 40 percent of bisexual people have considered or attempted suicide, compared to just over a quarter of gay men and lesbians.

At this time, Cruz hasn’t remarked on the incident via his social media accounts.
Hoping Ted Cruz' daughter is ok. She came out as bi earlier this year and while no one knows specifically why she engaged in self-harm, it's important to note that bisexual youth are at disproportionate risk of suicide attempts with 27% attempting it. https://t.co/BRUdZKNprv pic.twitter.com/AS79zT90rp

I don’t care how much we all despise Ted Cruz
His 14-year-old daughter and her private pain are off limits
She deserves only love, compassion and warmth
All of us have suffered under the shadow of sadness
Let’s give her and the Cruz family respect & support during this time♥️

Please don’t attach your rightful disgust at Ted Cruz to his daughter’s struggles. That is how the Right operates.
A 14-year old can’t control the family they were born into and should not be penalized for it. She deserves encouragement as much as any hurting young person.

When Paul Pelosi was attacked, Republicans celebrated, jeered, and crafted batshit conspiracy theories.
When Ted Cruz’s daughter committed self-harm, Democrats sent an outpouring of support for the Senator and his family.
DON’T tell me both sides are the same.
