Catherine O’Hara (“Home Alone,” “Schitt’s Creek”) Dead At 71

I am stunned by the news that Catherine O’Hara,  best known for her roles in  “Schitt’s Creek,” “Home Alone,” and “Beetlejuice,” and as a member of the groundbreaking Canadian sketch comedy series “S.C.T.V.,” has died.

The Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award winner was 71.

Creative Artists Agency, which represented her, confirmed her death in a statement, which did not cite a cause, saying only that she had been briefly ill.

O’Hara famously played Macaulay Culkin’s mother in the first two “Home Alone” movies, and rose to prominence appearing as Moira Rose in 80 episodes of “Schitt’s Creek.”

Culkin shared his reaction to O’Hara’s passing in a moving social media post:

Additional movie credits include 2000’s “Best in Show” in 2000, and “A Mighty Wind” (2003). She was also among the cast of “Beetlejuice” and its sequel.
