Carl Nassib, the only out gay player in the NFL has confirmed he has a new boyfriend – Danish Olympic swimmer Søren Dahl.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker has posted a few photos with Dahl over the past several months, but hadn’t commented on their relationship.
But Nassib shared in an Instagram Story post this week a photo of the two standing side-by-side with Dahl wearing Nassib’s Bucs jersey. The caption read: “Kicking off 2023 with my man and a trip to the playoffs.”
Dahl also shared the photo (along with others) and the caption: “Always Big Boy Season” and a heart emoji.
Nassib has been well-known in the LGBTQ world since 2021 when he came out as the only gay active player in the NFL. At the time, he was on the Las Vegas Raiders’ roster but he was released last May and was picked up (for the second time) by the Bucs for this season.
Dahl, 29, was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, but moved to the U.S. to attend college at North Carolina State University. As a member of the school’s swim team he became a two-time NCAA champion: first, as part of the 400 freestyle relay team, then as part of the 800 freestyle relay.
Dahl earned Olympian status representing Denmark at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Competing in the men’s 4 × 200 meter freestyle relay event, his team finished 12th and set a new national record.
Since his Olympic days he returned to school earning a master’s degree in communications from Texas Christian University. After graduating he reportedly moved to New York City.
Dahl doesn’t post a lot on Instagram – less than 150 posts in ten years – but a pic from August 2022 shows him with Nassib, the NFL player resting his head on Dahl’s shoulder (4th pic in the post below).
