President Joe Biden addressed the nation Sunday afternoon after a Situation Room briefing about the failed assassination attempt on his predecessor, Donald Trump.
“Last night I spoke with Donald Trump — we had a short, but good conversation. Jill and I are keeping him and his family in our prayers.”

Biden shared that he had a “short but good conversation” with Trump adding, “I am sincerely grateful that he’s doing well and recovering.” He also expressed his condolences to the deceased victim at the shooting, Corey Comperatore, a father of two and a firefighter. Biden then denounced the violent attack and called for unity: “There is no place in America for this kind of violence … an assassination attempt is contrary to everything we stand for as a nation — it’s not America.
