If you ever wonder why people tweet messages that are clearly insensitive, here’s one reason.
Twitter has begun paying users of the platform who generate high levels of engagement. So many of these folks – in order to make money – will tweet an image like the one below with a question in order to engage folks, even if it’s someone who criticizes them.
Twitter doesn’t care about the responses. What they care about is the engagement in order to sell more advertising.
So, if you see something that’s really messed up and you want to crunch them, think first. If they have a high number of followers and a blue check, they very well may be trolling for engagement. Don’t give it to them.
