Happy Monday! Some news stories for you as we head into the week:
• Them: The Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last week that a Maryland school district can require staff to use transgender students’ personal pronouns, denying a claim from a Christian substitute teacher who sued the district on First Amendment grounds.
• Black History Month: More than 40 years after the HIV epidemic began, on-screen representation of Black people living with HIV remains woefully sparse. Here are 10 celebrated films about the Black community, HIV, and why they remain culturally significant today.
• The Daily Beast: Kennedy Center staffers were blindsided by Donald Trump’s abrupt announcement that he is closing the iconic venue on July 4 for two years to renovate it. Staff learned of the closure from the president’s rambling Truth Social post on Sunday evening, according to multiple reports.
• CBS: The 50th season of “Survivor” arrives on February 25. I’ve been a fan from the beginning 25 years ago. The cast includes several returning contestants including LGBTQ players Ozzy Lusth & Mike White (creator of “The White Lotus”), and “The Traitors” champ Cirie Fields.
• MS Now: Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Monday that federal immigration officers in Minneapolis will begin wearing body cameras, addressing a concern among those critical of her forces as well as among some of the officers themselves.
