Report: Anti-LGBTQ Violence Rose Sharply In Israel In 2025

The Association for LGBTQ Equality in Israel has released a new report showing a sharp increase of anti-LGBTQ hatred in 2025, with online abuse moving into public spaces with physical attacks.

Via Ynet Global:

According to the report, at least one physical assault against an LGBTQ person occurs in Israel every week. Physical attacks accounted for half of all reported public-space incidents this year, a sharp rise from 32% in the previous report.

Cases of extortion and threats also climbed dramatically, from 3% of reports last year to 13.5% this year.

The most striking figure in the report concerns the extent to which violence has become part of everyday life for many members of the community.

In a national survey conducted for the first time as part of the report, 91% of respondents said they had experienced LGBTQ-phobia over the past year, but only 7% said they reported it.

The association’s reporting center documented 322 incidents of LGBTQ-phobic harm this year, along with 110 inquiries to its legal department.

More than 20 cases since 2024 have been documented in which attackers arranged meetings with victims via dating apps, and then ambushed them in groups of five to 10 people, sometimes masked and armed.

The report also found transgender people experienced homophobia and transphobia to a higher degree in every space examined:

• 87.5% on social media
• 91% in public spaces
• 79% at school
• 69.5% in state institutions
• 71% in private spaces
• 62% during a year of service or national or military service
• 66% in medical institutions
• 58% in local authority institutions
• 54% in educational and higher education institutions.
