Actress Anne Heche has died at the age of 53, a week after she was critically injured in a fiery car crash. The news was confirmed by her family, after previously announcing that she would be taken off of life support.

Heche is survived by two sons.

Representatives for Anne Heche indicated on Thursday that the actress was not expected to survive her injuries.

From Heche’s team on Thursday:

We want to thank everyone for their kind wishes and prayers for Anne’s recovery and thank the dedicated staff and wonderful nurses that cared for Anne at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills hospital.

Unfortunately, due to her accident, Anne Heche suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition. She is not expected to survive.

It has long been her choice to donate her organs and she is being kept on life support to determine if any are viable. Anne had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit.

More than her extraordinary talent, she saw spreading kindness and joy as her life’s work—especially moving the needle for acceptance of who you love. She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and dearly missed for her light.

Heche crashed her blue Mini Cooper into a home in the Mar Vista neighborhood of LA last Friday. The impact set off an enormous blaze that engulfed not only the house but her car as well. setting the house ablaze.

Dozens of firefighters battled the fire and Heche was eventually pulled from the fiery wreckage after 65 minutes. Initially, Heche was reportedly able to communicate with rescuers, but quickly lost consciousness.

Initially, there were rumors that Heche had been under the influence of alcohol at the time, but tests showed none in her system. She did test positive for cocaine and fentanyl, according to reports.

Folks have noted that Ellen DeGeneres, who Heche famously dated from 1997 to 2000, had been silent in sharing any public comments for Heche’s recovery.

When the man behind the camera asked, “It was quite a dangerous accident that happened, wasn’t it?” Ellen offered a short “Sure was.”
