Adele Postpones Las Vegas Residency One Day Before Premiere

Just a day before the premiere of Adele’s Las Vegas residency, titled “Weekends With Adele,” the Grammy Award winner announced that the show would not go on as scheduled due to COVID-related delays. Via the Los Angeles Times:

“I’m so sorry, but my show ain’t ready,” Adele said, fighting back tears, in an emotional video posted on social media Thursday afternoon. “We’ve tried absolutely everything that we can to put it together in time.”

“We’ve been absolutely destroyed by delivery delays and COVID,” she explained. “Half my crew, half my team are down with COVID. They still are. And it’s been impossible to finish the show. And I can’t give you what I have right now, and I’m gutted. I’m gutted, and I’m sorry it’s so last-minute.”

“We’ve been awake for over 30 hours now trying to figure it out and we’ve run out of time,” she said. “I’m so upset, and I’m really embarrassed and I’m so sorry to everyone who traveled to get here. I’m really, really sorry.”

I certainly feel for Adele. She has a vision for the show and wants to deliver that to her fans. Plus, if half the crew is down from COVID, that’s that. That said, it’s tough perusing Twitter as throngs of fans found out the news too late to change their travel plans possibly losing thousands. How about this: Caesars refund what fans paid for concert tickets this weekend, but honor their seats and have Adele do an impromptu show from center stage? Adele has no other place to be at this point anyway, and fans get a special memory with their queen.
