There was quite the drama today in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial as the jury ended its 6th day of deliberations without a verdict. But not before courtroom tensions flared over what appears to be a deadlocked jury.
Clancy is accused of strangling her 3 children in 2023. Prosecutors have argued Clancy acted “intentionally, rationally, and swiftly” to kill her children. The defense says she should not be held criminally responsible because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.
CBS News reports the foreperson in the murder trial sent a note asking for one juror to be removed for not following the rules regarding the law’s definition of “reasonable doubt.” Defense attorney Kevin Reddington then asked for that juror to be removed.

First, Judge William F. Sullivan spoke with the prosecutor’s team and the defense lawyers at the bench. During those discussions, defense lawyer Kevin Reddington became very animated and upset, as it looked like the judge was not willing to remove the one juror.
Then, Clancy herself was brought up to the judge.
After speaking for a few minutes, each juror was brought into the courtroom one at a time to answer a question (we couldn’t hear it) from the judge. This was WITH Clancy right there at the bench.
After all twelve jurors were addressed, the full jury returned to the courtroom and Judge Sullivan again explained “reasonable doubt” to the jury noting that it’s not enough for the commonwealth to establish a strong probability that the defendant is “more likely guilty than not guilty.”
Rather, the jury must be convinced of the defendant’s guilt to a “reasonable and moral certainty,” Sullivan told jurors.

He then instructed the jury to go back to deliberations.
Legal pundits seem to feel it’s reasonable to assume that one juror has been the focus of the others’ efforts to sway them over the past 35 hours of deliberations.
The jury has now been sent home for the day and will return on Friday at 9 a.m. for further deliberations.
